[00:00:09] A Tokyo Base to video game podcast focusing on Nintendo and gaming culture in Japan's

[00:00:15] capital.

[00:00:16] Your host Mono here to bring you a slice of gaming life from Tokyo.

[00:00:20] Today, D.J. Tatsujin, YouTuber and creator of the gaming website, Game Ubaka, joins

[00:00:25] the podcast as we chat about one of Capcom's more obscure fighting games, Red Earth.

[00:00:30] Why did Capcom make a fancy boss rush game right before Street Fighter 3?

[00:00:34] How do you actually get good?

[00:00:36] Which boss should be in Monster Hunter?

[00:00:38] We get into everything about this underrated gym, and I look at even more fighting games

[00:00:43] with the Marvel vs. Capcom fighting collection.

[00:00:46] In the feature segment, we return to warmer weather as I dish out the details on aquatic

[00:00:50] theme park Yokohama Hakkejima Sea Paradise and their Animal Crossing Collaboration.

[00:00:55] Let's jump into the game section with D.J. Tatsujin and Red Earth.

[00:01:05] Today's game is a throwback as we talk about 1996's Red Earth, a very under the

[00:01:09] Red Earth Capcom fighting game that's both strange and fascinating.

[00:01:13] Joining me to chat all about this eclectic game is a special guest.

[00:01:16] So, guest, please introduce yourself.

[00:01:18] Hi, thank you for having me.

[00:01:19] I am D.J. Tatsujin of Game Ubaka and Game Ubaka is a website online Game Ubaka.com,

[00:01:27] which goes through all manner of retro gaming and a lot of the culture aspects.

[00:01:32] Not just reviews but just kind of really dives into what games are and how they've affected

[00:01:38] the gaming culture.

[00:01:40] Thanks for joining me.

[00:01:41] Let's get the basics down and give everyone the pitch what is Red Earth?

[00:01:46] Well, Red Earth is Capcom's first CP3 hardware game where it's a one-on-one fighting game

[00:01:53] but it's at least heavily into the fantasy aspects as Capcom had developed dungeons and dragons

[00:01:59] games for the arcade.

[00:02:01] So it kind of takes the elements of experience points leveling up, collecting treasures

[00:02:06] in the different items and incorporating that into the one-on-one fighting game system.

[00:02:11] All right, you have to decide right now which is a better name, Red Earth or the Japanese

[00:02:15] name, Warseard?

[00:02:17] I'm partial to Warseard because that's how it was previewed at the time and then when

[00:02:22] I actually found in arcade cabinet it happened to be the Japanese Warseard version.

[00:02:28] So that's just the one that's been ingrained in me, I guess.

[00:02:32] That's what my preference is.

[00:02:34] Yeah, I guess Warseard is a bit more accurate to what the game actually is.

[00:02:38] Although Red Earth was also a very evocative tile so I don't think either are bad.

[00:02:42] So it is fun they have two very cool but very different names.

[00:02:46] Strickly my head cannon but I always thought that Warseard was a combination of war and

[00:02:51] wizards.

[00:02:52] That's just how in my head as a kid that's how it was I guess and so that's just another

[00:02:57] reason why the name sticks to me.

[00:02:59] Yeah, and this is definitely one of the more obscure fighting games in the Capcom canon.

[00:03:04] But as we will get into the game is not completely forgotten by Capcom or Hardcore fans.

[00:03:09] How did you first come across the game?

[00:03:12] I first came across the game.

[00:03:13] It is issue number 100 of game pro magazine.

[00:03:17] They had a hot at the arcade section where obviously they would go over what was hot at the

[00:03:23] arcades and they had a preview.

[00:03:26] I'm guessing it was around the time of one of the amusement trade shows in Japan.

[00:03:31] But they highlighted the game Warseard and put all sorts of these crazy looking screenshots,

[00:03:37] ninjas and dinosaurs and mice effects with spells and everything.

[00:03:42] Build it with the experience point system so you could level up your characters and

[00:03:46] gain moves throughout the duration of your gameplay.

[00:03:49] Have passwords to save your character?

[00:03:51] It sounded like the coolest fighting game ever when it was previewed in game pro magazine.

[00:03:58] Being all hyped for it and then the game just never dropped in my area.

[00:04:03] None of my arcades ever had it so that really got my expectations up and then it took me

[00:04:08] pretty much a decade before I could even play it at the arcade.

[00:04:13] For me, I have to assume I learned about Red Earth through Tessa.

[00:04:17] I guess I saw her first via S&K versus Capcom cardfighter's clash.

[00:04:21] Because she does have a card in that game and I love to cite the fighter's generation

[00:04:25] which is a huge resource that has every fighting game and profile pages for every single

[00:04:30] character.

[00:04:31] So I could see myself browsing through there and then discovering Red Earth and I think

[00:04:35] most people know of Red Earth now because of the Capcom fighting collection, which I recently

[00:04:40] bought so that's why we are randomly doing a Red Earth episode in 2024.

[00:04:45] And a bit of history on the game it was the first ever title for Capcom's CBS 3 Arcade

[00:04:50] board which you mentioned earlier.

[00:04:51] Most famously the arcade board or Street Fighter 3 and why do you think Capcom released

[00:04:56] Red Earth as the first game for the hardware?

[00:04:59] Was it just a test run or was Street Fighter 3 not ready yet or what?

[00:05:03] I would probably venture to guess that is a combination of those types of things but

[00:05:08] I know they were really looking to flex the graphical muscle of the CBS 3 hardware and

[00:05:15] there are a lot I mean it just looks great even in 2024 you play the game and the pixel

[00:05:21] are it just looks fantastic and they were experimenting with asymmetrical sprites where

[00:05:28] there are aspects of the characters normally when you play a fighting game it's one sprite

[00:05:33] and then they mirror the sprite whether so they're facing left or right is just mirrored

[00:05:38] but there are elements of warsered where there are actual differences between their

[00:05:44] small but there are differences between the characters facing left and right for example

[00:05:49] the GG boss in the temple is different colors whether he's facing left or right

[00:05:55] kind of like Gill eventually did in Street Fighter 3 and then also Tessa or Tabitha has two

[00:06:02] cats that accompany her Alan Ivan and whether she's facing left or right a different cat is represented

[00:06:09] when they appear in her attacks.

[00:06:11] I don't know where Street Fighter 3 would have been at this point but I think they wanted to

[00:06:17] really flex some graphical muscle and this fantasy aspect is probably something that would

[00:06:22] have really highlighted this. For a long time I assumed this was a Japan only game but it did

[00:06:27] get a western release can you touch on the original US release of the arcade version of Red Earth?

[00:06:33] Yeah I don't have a lot of experience with it outside of emulation because it took me

[00:06:37] at least a decade before I could actually play in this case it was warzard but

[00:06:44] this game just never dropped in this area never saw it once even in my travels and around

[00:06:51] this time I had even taken a trip to Europe and I didn't see it in Europe either. I don't know if

[00:06:56] it was officially released a Europe or if I had a world version or whatever but I just flat out

[00:07:01] never saw Red Earth's arcade cabinet and still to this day if I've seen an arcade cabinet

[00:07:07] it is warzard so I will say that one of the big differences is we've had this discussion on

[00:07:15] one of my streams before but between the Japanese release and the US release various names

[00:07:20] have been changed between the two versions. I think Leo is actually the only of the four characters

[00:07:25] that you could select that keeps his name between the two versions and we were talking we

[00:07:31] were trying to decide if it would be Red Earth or maybe Saturday night slammasters specifically

[00:07:37] the second version we're trying to figure out which game Capcom changed the most names for

[00:07:42] between the Japanese and US version but that's one thing if you'll notice because like we said

[00:07:49] I have a lot of experience with Warzard I tend to reference the characters by their Japanese name

[00:07:54] as opposed to the name that they are changed to for the US version but yeah it seemed like both

[00:08:00] versions released close to the same timeframe too so I doubt there'd be a lot of gameplay changes

[00:08:06] or revisions but it's mostly storyline because I want to say hopefully I'm not mixing them up but

[00:08:12] I think the US version takes place in earlier times kind of referencing that there was no

[00:08:18] industrial revolution and so explaining the fantasy setting whereas the Japanese version it's in

[00:08:25] the 20th century and it's supposed to pop elliptic so I think any difference between the two versions

[00:08:31] is going to be negligible just kind of a setting and set piece type items. As a kid I never ever

[00:08:39] encountered an arcade version of Red Earth and even if you search online there's maybe one picture

[00:08:43] of an actual English Red Earth cab so even really back in the day it was extremely obscure I think

[00:08:49] it's not uncommon to have never ever encountered this game even if you were a hardcore arcade

[00:08:55] gore back in the day but it is a very very unique game and like we mentioned before the basic premise

[00:09:00] is that it is a boss rush fighting game where you don't fight other characters on the roster

[00:09:04] but instead giant unique creatures it's often pitched as a single player RPG fighting game

[00:09:10] are there any other similar games to this what do you think is the inspiration for Capcom

[00:09:14] to make a game like this as opposed to a more traditional fighting game? I would probably venture

[00:09:19] to guess that there's a lot of the lines of their development of Dungeons and Dragons where you get

[00:09:24] all these fantasy monsters in there. I wouldn't be sure where the boss rush aspect comes from but

[00:09:31] as you touched on it was kind of a short live genre the boss rush fighting game because

[00:09:36] Konami had monster mollers which is a really cool fighting game where you tackle a series of

[00:09:42] boss characters and there's even a few stages toward the end that kind of veer toward almost beat

[00:09:48] them up stages where you fight a lot of minor enemies in between the bosses and then also

[00:09:53] bandpressedo published I think it's called Only the Ninja Master that has an alternate title

[00:09:58] met a mochester where it's a fighting game but it's against a lineup of bosses that

[00:10:05] chemistly ends with the final boss of fighting an evil fetus that's kind of one of the

[00:10:10] tropes that's in some schmops too but those are the big three the red earth or wizard

[00:10:15] and then you have monster ballers and O'Ne where you have that one player versus big boss type

[00:10:23] of fighting game. The only thing is with red earth or wizard when you pick two players you're forced

[00:10:31] to fight each other whereas in monster mollers or met a mochester you team up against these characters

[00:10:37] and I think that's kind of the one edge that those games have over red earth or wizard

[00:10:42] I would say red earth fighting game wise plays better than the other two but I think the other two

[00:10:47] games have a little bit more casual peel and longevity because you can team up and I just wish

[00:10:54] that red earth had the ability to team up. I don't know how they would have done that in that

[00:10:58] fighting game system but I think that would have been the one catch that would really let

[00:11:02] especially casual players latch onto the game. Sometimes the structure of the game, what would you

[00:11:07] say are the more unique gameplay elements or fighting mechanics? The experience point system is

[00:11:13] pretty nice if you were to I guess experience this in its life and the arcade it's just unfortunate

[00:11:20] now I think a lot of people are just going to go online get the password to get the max level character

[00:11:25] and that's kind of that it was truly meant to be a gradual experience where you start with

[00:11:31] this character that has a handful of moves and after you put a chunk of time into the character

[00:11:36] and level them up now they suddenly have a variety of different moves as well as a couple of the

[00:11:43] characters more specifically Leo he can game different swords through the gameplay so there's even

[00:11:49] equipment that you can game through the course of the gameplay and I think that's kind of the real

[00:11:57] hook of the game and just for me personally I find the single player a bit more interesting because

[00:12:04] of all the story beats that changed dramatically between the characters you choose it's stuck to

[00:12:10] the four characters and I think that's the big sticking point for a lot of people especially

[00:12:16] there's only four characters to choose and you can't play as many of the bosses and so if you're

[00:12:22] playing the two player mode there's four characters and so there's not a ton of variety even

[00:12:29] though theoretically there is because you could be facing characters at different levels and they have

[00:12:35] different moves so the player would have to approach the fight in a different way depending on how

[00:12:40] leveled up they were but I think today people are just gonna go online get the password and

[00:12:47] be leveled up because if you were to do ranked matches or you know play it online through the

[00:12:53] Capcom fighting collection you're just kind of really putting yourself at a disadvantage not

[00:12:58] being at the highest level so but I mean if you are trying to level up your character you do get

[00:13:04] a bar greater point rewards for beating a character at a higher level I think the big hook the

[00:13:12] exclusive thing to this game at the time was it's leveling up and password system which a lot

[00:13:17] of games that the arcade at this point you weren't able to leave and then come back and continue

[00:13:23] your game in any sort of way and I was always kind of really attracted to games that let you do that

[00:13:30] around this time you would also have things coming up midways gauntlet legends which I really

[00:13:36] enjoyed because you can leave and then come back and then there was some semblance of your game

[00:13:42] that was saved so that was something that I always thought was really cool with arcade cabinets.

[00:13:47] Yeah you mentioned there are only four characters but I do think it has quite an awesome

[00:13:50] character select screen probably because it only has four so you can do this very dramatic

[00:13:54] almost a cinematic presentation of the characters which is really awesome.

[00:13:59] Do you have a favorite character in red earth? I tend to play as Tao a lot the martial arts

[00:14:04] girl. She is really easy chain combos which are really fun to do and a few basic moves that let

[00:14:10] you juggle so I just find it to be fun but I also playing as Leo he's just an overall based character

[00:14:17] and he gets a command grab I love command grabs and fighting games all the characters kind of have

[00:14:23] their own little tick that makes some fun to play but if you get dragged into the competitive

[00:14:29] type of play there's definitely a couple of characters he's known as Kenji in the U.S. I find

[00:14:36] him pretty difficult to play as he's not my fighting style tab as well she's a cool character

[00:14:43] but my fighting style tend to gravitate toward in fighting games is more Leo. Yeah I would say those

[00:14:49] are the I guess the more standard ice characters for me I do like Tessa even though she is really

[00:14:55] complicated to use but she has a very fun design I love her weird little kind of curly stalks

[00:15:00] she has for hair which hide under her very very pointy hat and I see why Capcom has put her

[00:15:06] in other games considering the other characters are not as I just they're not generic but I don't

[00:15:11] think they stand out as much as Tessa does. But what about the bosses? The game has a lot of visually

[00:15:17] striking ones you have a favorite I really like Ravange which is the wild looking Egyptian chimera type of

[00:15:23] thing yeah that that is a good one and the based on the fact that he just fills the screen I've

[00:15:32] always liked Towser yeah when you pick Leo it's a very I guess because I started playing as Leo

[00:15:37] it's just the first boss that you see so Housers always something that stuck out to me the giant

[00:15:43] Tyrannosaurus Rex which again when I was a kid he saw ninjas and dinosaurs and you're like

[00:15:49] this is the best game but I do like I do like blades design as well especially since he gets

[00:15:55] the cool little seed where if you damage him a little bit he throws off his cape and then

[00:16:00] starts fighting seriously. I think that's a cool little little touch sets in the game.

[00:16:05] Yeah and the bosses are incredibly tough the last boss I almost don't even want to talk about it

[00:16:10] because it is that classic insane final boss fight for an arcade fighting game. Do you have any

[00:16:15] tips on how to get better at the game? What do I need to know on the road to one CC?

[00:16:21] When you're playing one player you get to take it a little bit differently than you would if

[00:16:25] you're fighting a human opponent especially of the final boss once you get some experience in playing

[00:16:31] against the final boss he realizes a little bit predictable with his tone of ports so if you can

[00:16:37] always time your super jump so you're landing behind him as he finishes his teleport he can't attack

[00:16:43] behind him so it's a game of one upsmanship where you're trying to stay one step ahead and if

[00:16:49] you can be behind him you'll find that the fight is drastically easier and that'll help you out

[00:16:56] kind of beating him and he actually has two forms and it's kind of the same for both forms it's just

[00:17:01] you kind of got to get a feel of when he's going to teleport so which he does fairly predictably

[00:17:06] and if you're able to stay one step ahead you'll be able to take them down but the things is when

[00:17:12] you're playing this game casually you'll find that the boss characters are armored you'll hit them

[00:17:17] and they won't show any signs of stun so if you attack at the wrong spot that's just kind of

[00:17:24] the game that you need to play throughout especially your house or said that's the first fight

[00:17:28] you get as Leo if you can super jump to get behind him hit an air attack and then a crouching attack

[00:17:35] you'll get the knockdown because he'll run out of armor and then you can follow up with a

[00:17:40] chase attack to attack them always on the ground once you break that armor you can also

[00:17:45] with how the crouching fierce punch launches characters and if you're fast enough you can

[00:17:51] juggle the elemental supers into it a lot of players use the lightning elemental that way you can

[00:17:56] juggle them in the air which is great too when you finish an opponent with one of those elemental

[00:18:02] as they tend to do a lot of hits and when it combos up you get more treasures that pop out of the

[00:18:07] enemy at the end to level up faster but it's just experienced it took me quite a fair amount of time

[00:18:14] to once he see the game with Leo and once I did that I found my onecc with how came much faster

[00:18:22] my next step was to work on the onecc for Tessa haven't gotten around to that one yet

[00:18:28] but when I do this too I've always taken the approaches I just start the game from scratch so

[00:18:34] I'm starting at level one Tessa's a character I've heard that once she's at max level she's given

[00:18:40] the moves and tools that make her way more effective so I might buck the trend and see what I can do

[00:18:47] with the max level Tessa on the one player mode so that's the one I'll say for last if I'm

[00:18:57] just I haven't had it in my head yet and I don't I kind of talked a lot of negativity about

[00:19:03] Kenji is he's still as a cool character but I think competitively I've heard the reason

[00:19:08] a lot of people don't play us him is that the characters actually have elemental weaknesses

[00:19:13] and Kenji's happens to be the lightning which is a favorite of the competitive players so you're

[00:19:20] putting yourself in a position where you're going to take extra damage from an attack you know

[00:19:24] all of the players are going to use so that's just another reason why he just unfortunately

[00:19:29] gets the short end of the stick in the game although Red Earth never became a franchise it has

[00:19:34] gotten some love from Capcom over the years characters have appeared in crossover game Tessa

[00:19:39] is in pocket fighter and as in Gavers' Capcom chaos they're also multiple Red Earth cards in

[00:19:45] cardfighters clash and there are four playable Red Earth characters including bosses in Capcom fighting

[00:19:52] and of course Red Earth cards first ever homerlies thanks to Capcom fighting collection

[00:19:57] do you think there's any possibility that Capcom revisits the franchise in the future outside

[00:20:01] of cameos they could one day just decide that they want to do a new Red Earth or Warse

[00:20:07] or but I would personally say the chances are very low and I'm saying this has somebody who

[00:20:12] truly loves Red Earth I think it's one of those things where they'll be content of picking pieces

[00:20:18] out of it and putting cameos into a variety of different other media because you have seen

[00:20:26] in recent street fighters there are costumes you can buy and put on the characters

[00:20:32] there are references to Red Earth still in the current games I think if they did it though

[00:20:37] it would be something that doesn't quite resemble the original game from 1996 they would probably

[00:20:44] retool it quite a bit I do think there is a lot of merits in the approach of having the

[00:20:52] experience system and the fantasy settings and some of these characters that people have

[00:20:57] grown to love over the years especially as they gain more exposure through these cameos but

[00:21:03] doing a direct sequel to Red Earth or Warse I just don't think that's going to be something

[00:21:09] in the cards for Capcom but I would love for them to prove me wrong.

[00:21:13] What about the next Marvel vs Capcom game do you think they will include a playable

[00:21:16] Red Earth character and if so who do you want? If it's Marvel vs Capcom I'm not sure

[00:21:23] because then they're working with a smaller character base for the Capcom side and I just think

[00:21:30] they're going to choose other characters over any of the my personal feeling is especially as you

[00:21:35] saw with Marvel vs Capcom infinite which is a fine game by the way it's just I think now that

[00:21:41] Marvel is owned by Disney that that's a company that's far more aggressive about how their

[00:21:47] characters are used I've always expressed the desire that Capcom just go on its own and release

[00:21:53] a Marvel vs Capcom game style game but it's just all Capcom characters. I think they could

[00:22:01] do that obviously it won't have the mainstream appeal that Marvel gives them because they do get a

[00:22:06] casual bias and playership just based on the fact that Marvel is involved but I think that they

[00:22:12] could do an all Capcom game if they wanted to because then they wouldn't have to have half the

[00:22:18] roster be Marvel that opens up more character slots and makes it more viable that somebody from

[00:22:24] Red Earth could make it in there and I just I think they would go with Tesla to my vote would

[00:22:29] be with Tesla to it would give a different type of gameplay Leo Tau Kenji but I think they have

[00:22:37] for Kenji he's an ninja I think Strider already has that kind of even though they probably won't

[00:22:42] play exactly the same just the medically they have Strider that can be there and you know just

[00:22:49] with Tau they have Chun Li and that type of deal so I think Tusset would be the one that really sticks

[00:22:55] out that could be somewhat of a different character that would warrant taking up a precious

[00:23:01] character slot in one of those games. Okay final question what do you think is the legacy of Red Earth

[00:23:07] different has won outside of just being a fairly obscure Capcom fighter? I think it largely exists

[00:23:12] outside of the game itself and the gameplay because we've touched on the cameos that they've made

[00:23:19] in other games but because of the fantasy setting because of the characters because of the

[00:23:25] game in the series that it can largely exist outside of gaming as well because I have here

[00:23:33] Udon in the U.S. the publishing Udon Entertainment they actually released it took many years

[00:23:40] but they actually translated and released the amally feakerum book that was released in Japan

[00:23:46] around the time that the Red Earth game released but what this is it's a manga by mommy Eto

[00:23:54] and it has short stories from the dark stalkers but it also has a short manga based on

[00:24:01] Red Earth that goes through the storyline of Red Earth mixes in the characters the fight against

[00:24:08] the different bosses and you know you get things like that there are little figures that you can get

[00:24:14] I think it was based mostly on the characters appearances and Capcom fighting evolution or Capcom

[00:24:20] fighting jam which is a decent game too I always point out that if you unlock Shin Akuma

[00:24:26] and you have a Shin Akuma mirror match in Capcom fighting jam that's the ultimate fun you can

[00:24:32] have in that game because he gets a variety of different systems he gets a variety of different

[00:24:37] mechanics combined that he can use and because he's so powerful while at the same time having low health

[00:24:42] he actually has two super moves that can kill himself and one hit that's the ultimate game

[00:24:47] of chest there that's the ideal way to play Capcom fighting jam but he was back to that I know

[00:24:53] there is a figure set based on Capcom fighting jam specifically there is one where in that game

[00:25:00] to meetry the dark stalkers vampire he has a super move called midnight bliss where he transforms

[00:25:06] the opponent if they're male he changes them into a female because that's what the vampire does

[00:25:12] he prays on women to drink their blood etc but it actually has even the boss characters

[00:25:19] I know Nual and Houser and that they have a bit of a female form and they're at least the Nual

[00:25:26] I know that has a figure that exists in Japan so and I think it's the legacy

[00:25:32] right now at least is in its theme and it's ability to be used in a number of different media

[00:25:39] but I hope they get back on the track of including them in more games because even in pocket fight

[00:25:45] I greatly enjoy pocket fighter that's a fantastic yeah fighting game to enjoy if you just take it on

[00:25:51] its merits it's a very silly game but if you embrace it it's a lot of fun and they're just making

[00:25:57] constant background appearances and little cameo if you're playing as Tessa and you block

[00:26:03] she holds tile in front of her to absorb the blows that's just incredible nice little details so

[00:26:11] I would hope to see them actively playable in future games but

[00:26:16] because of the setting because of the characters they can exist outside of video games as well

[00:26:22] and hopefully at some points we can get more figures and manga etc to kind of continue the legacy

[00:26:30] of the series and I'm saying this I actually threw on my

[00:26:34] redder t-shirt that I got this capcom release t-shirts around the time of Capcom fighting collection

[00:26:40] so I made sure I got the redder t-shirt from that. Awesome what about how's her in monster hunters

[00:26:47] or any chance about that happening? I'm surprised that hasn't happened already

[00:26:51] I was really big into it when it first released I attended the 2004 E3 and that's when Capcom

[00:26:57] showing it off as being playable and I was huge into fantasy star online and I just kind of felt

[00:27:04] well this is I'm not saying it's exactly the same but it has similar kind of setup where there's

[00:27:10] a town hub and then you pick a party of the four people and then go tackle the missions kind of like

[00:27:16] fantasy star online. I felt that was the closest I was going to get to that on the PlayStation 2 so

[00:27:21] I jumped on that wagon very early and I found a few people to play with but if you think about

[00:27:27] the monster hunter now it was nowhere near this popular when it first released in the US. It was

[00:27:32] pretty big in Japan after a few versions but it took a good while before the wheel started spinning

[00:27:38] in the US and just unfortunately about the time I got out of it was when people really started

[00:27:44] getting into it so I feel I have to get back on the monster hunter wagon at some point but yeah I

[00:27:50] think that's just that's lobbying them that's lobbying a softball up in the air for the

[00:27:55] latter right there. It just put a house that's right into the monster hunter and it shouldn't

[00:28:00] take a lot to do and it's just a nice little nod to the series. Let's first you can choose which

[00:28:05] campaign you want to do you can campaign for a new red earth or a campaign for a character in

[00:28:11] the next part of versus Capcom or Houser in monster hunters so you have many choices about how to

[00:28:15] bring red earth back. So that was our talk on red earth definitely worth at least trying out

[00:28:21] and the Capcom fighting collection as a whole is a really interesting collection and red earth I

[00:28:25] would say is probably maybe the most interesting game in the collection in terms of how it stands out

[00:28:32] although I do love pocketfighter as well. So DJ Tossaging of Game of Baka where can people find you?

[00:28:38] You can find me on Game of Baka which is Game of Baka.com it's a general gaming website mostly

[00:28:43] based on retro games but new where games pop up on it every now and again so that's where

[00:28:48] I've been trying to really build that up and just have an archive of my thoughts on video gaming

[00:28:54] but you can also catch smaller thoughts on social media. I am DJ Tossaging on Twitter,

[00:29:00] on cohost and blue sky on YouTube. My channel is Game of Baka and on Twitch I stream as DJ Tossaging.

[00:29:10] Great and the least everything will be in the podcast description so listeners check it out.

[00:29:14] DJ Tossaging of Game of Baka once again thanks for joining me. Thank you for having me I really

[00:29:19] appreciate it. Once again thanks to DJ Tossaging of Game of Baka for coming on the podcast

[00:29:24] be sure to check out his site and YouTube channel in the links but we aren't quite done with

[00:29:29] fighting games just yet as I've been playing the wordly named Marvel versus Capcom fighting collection

[00:29:33] arcade classics. I'm normally a stickler for branding and using the entire name in the podcast

[00:29:38] title, but come on I'm dropping the arcade classics even the fighting seems a little superfluous.

[00:29:44] But this is one of the mega ton announcements from the June Nintendo Direct, a collection

[00:29:48] of classic Marvel fighting games from Capcom. In order of release we've got X-Men children of

[00:29:53] the Adam, Marvel Superheroes, X-Men versus Street Fighter, Marvel Superheroes versus Street

[00:29:58] Fighter, Marvel versus Capcom and finally Marvel versus Capcom 2. And as a bonus we also get the

[00:30:04] Punisher Arcade Game which was actually the first Marvel game Capcom ever made and this whole series

[00:30:09] might not exist without that title so it is fun to see them included but really they could have

[00:30:14] just called this Marvel versus Capcom 2 in friends. In Vc2 is the reason why people are excited

[00:30:18] about the collection. It's one of the best 2D fighters ever and the game has a new home release

[00:30:23] for the first time in nearly 15 years. And you could argue that actually this is the first

[00:30:28] ever arcade perfect home console port of in Vc2 so there is still some novelty in seeing

[00:30:33] this version of that game and seven years in I still get to kick out of playing games portably

[00:30:38] for the first time ever but I did my new diligence and played every game in the collection at

[00:30:43] 4 a little bit. As a collection it does feel like a carbon copy of the first Capcom fighting collection

[00:30:48] which is home to Red Earth. You have pretty much every option you can think of at your disposal.

[00:30:52] You can put on CRT filters, you can adjust the input lag, you can play the Japanese version

[00:30:57] and most importantly you can play online via rollback netcode. Certain characters are also

[00:31:01] now playable for the first time ever. Do you want to be cyber-acuma in Marvel Superheroes versus Street

[00:31:06] Fighter? Now you can. One thing I do feel is improved from the first collection is the

[00:31:11] news in gallery. Since the Marvel versus Capcom series has so many characters you've got a ton

[00:31:16] of incredibly high-res art. Not only that but they've also included design documents showcasing

[00:31:20] sketches and rough drafts of character designs game-pilling mechanics and special moves.

[00:31:25] These are so well preserved but you can also ease stuff like folds in the paper and tears

[00:31:29] which does give it a bit of character. I've definitely been on a retro gaming documents kick recently,

[00:31:35] I went to the DQ3 and Earthbound exhibit that featured the original planning pages from those games,

[00:31:40] but sadly I couldn't take any pictures. But Capcom says here just have all of them blown up

[00:31:45] on your 60 inch TV. While it would be great to have a digital foundry-esque deep dive into the

[00:31:50] history and creation of this series, I do appreciate that Capcom did more than just upload the

[00:31:54] basic promo art in color today. Now unlike the first collection which featured a lot of different

[00:31:58] franchises, this one certainly feels a bit more iterative. You might think what's the point of playing

[00:32:03] these other Marvel fighters over NVC2? I mean, NVC2 is the best one but I do think every game is still

[00:32:09] one of stands out in its own way. Even Marvel versus Capcom 1, which I assumed would just be NVC2

[00:32:15] light, has some interesting mechanics I did expect in a huge variety of support characters

[00:32:19] that only pop up in that game. You can call it in Jubilee or the unknown soldier from

[00:32:25] forgotten worlds or US agent. I literally had no idea these characters ever popped up in an NVC game

[00:32:31] so you can still be surprised by many of these pre-MVC2 games. If you've never played any of the

[00:32:39] ones for one sidecops, it's in it. Two, the game's focus more on tag teams and especially

[00:32:44] tagging in characters to do in a Sys Attack. Also, there's a lot more aerial combat and the

[00:32:48] games in general feel significantly faster. Each game kind of drip feeds new mechanics like

[00:32:52] one will introduce super job and the next will introduce hyper combos but then it all culminated

[00:32:57] into Marvel versus Capcom 2, a three versus three fighter where you can tag fighters in and out at

[00:33:02] will or use some assets to tax and the game heavily focuses on wanting to pop up your meter

[00:33:07] to do everything from special counters to screen-filling moves. Marvel 2 is a great game because

[00:33:12] the floor is pretty low but the ceiling is high above the ozone layer.

[00:33:16] Mechanically, it's pretty simple on paper, it's technically a four button fighter instead

[00:33:19] of a typical six button layout like Street Fighter, meaning you just have high and low attacks

[00:33:24] on the face buttons. The right triggers summon either of your characters on your team to pop in

[00:33:28] and deliver a special attack. And by default, the left triggers are tied to special attacks

[00:33:32] like a hood-oken and also a super attack. You can turn this off though if you are a purest.

[00:33:37] But, if you are a scrub or a casual like me, yes one button super attacks or hyper combos

[00:33:43] as they're called in the game. So even as a casual player, you can easily just summon your

[00:33:47] teammates to do cool moves and just instantly pop off and then say looking special attack

[00:33:51] with minimal effort. Since the game is so focused on using your meter for many things,

[00:33:56] it's not like other fighting games where you spend the entire match just to build up your

[00:34:02] with it. You're going to see like what? 10 hyper combos per NVC2 match? There's almost a

[00:34:07] Smash Bros. like franticness to the pace of the gameplay and the overall spectacle,

[00:34:11] which is why so many casual fighting game fans love NVC2 even if they don't know exactly

[00:34:16] what they're doing. Obviously though, the game is not balanced and hard-course I figured out

[00:34:20] the best teams including the infamous MSP combo, Magneto Storm and Siloc. But if you're good,

[00:34:27] you'd be surprised about how well you can do with the characters outside of the meta.

[00:34:30] Cable is my favorite character even though he is considered very very high tier.

[00:34:34] Also, I'm a big fan of Iron Man in War Machine. It is funny that, oh you can pick Kami in this

[00:34:39] game. She can kick people while other characters have laser cannons. Thankfully there are

[00:34:45] casual online matches that let you do one button supers where this is all describes including me

[00:34:49] live. So please join us. It's fun to just press a button and immediately do a proton cannon attack.

[00:34:55] As for the other games, I've been digging the X-Men vs. Street Fighter, which is the only other

[00:34:59] game in the collection besides NVC2 that I've actually played. It does feel like a whole lot simpler

[00:35:04] and computer than NVC2 since your team only has two characters and you just tag them in and out

[00:35:08] as opposed to super a Cicetax and whatnot. It feels a bit closer to Alpha 3 in speed and mechanics

[00:35:14] which I dig. X-Men in Chordered of the Adam is also very impressive for a 1994 game. I mean it

[00:35:19] looks absolutely fantastic. And it's fun to see how moves, animations and win poses have changed

[00:35:24] for characters from that game 2 NVC2. Marvel Superheroes has a unique infinity still mechanic

[00:35:29] which gives you bust in the match. I think not too dissimilar from NVC Infinite. Marvel vs. Street Fighter

[00:35:35] introduces the whole assist mechanic which NVC will spill to pawn but having really figured out

[00:35:40] that game's hook beyond okay this is just proto NVC. And NVC1 feels way more fresh than I imagine

[00:35:46] thanks to its unique assist mechanic and weird secret characters. Do you guys like Shadow Lady or Orange

[00:35:52] Venom? The Punisher arcade game is also worth playing. It's very simple mechanically. You basically

[00:35:58] just have an attack and jump button but the game is a mix of classic streets of Raidstyle beat

[00:36:02] em ups where you punch a bunch of street punks but you also sometimes get crazy weapons like guns,

[00:36:06] axes, plane throwers and then fight weird robots. Hey isn't it weird that the Punisher has never

[00:36:12] appeared in a fighting game despite sort of kicking this whole thing off? I'm pretty sure he could

[00:36:16] take a surf bot. Also all these games in general have amazing presentation when it comes to

[00:36:20] their art style and music. Now sure how you describe it just neon color maximalism? Every time

[00:36:27] I see a character select screen of any of these games I think man. What a great character select

[00:36:32] screen. And yeah the music is pretty iconic. Going to take you for a ride, the Marvel vs. Capcom

[00:36:37] 1 mini music has been in my head for a week now. It's just fantastic all around. A point of criticism

[00:36:44] while the game tells you what buttons do and never really explains about canics in any way.

[00:36:48] How do I learn how to tag out in MVC 2? Well press start then click on the Markete card option

[00:36:54] then zoom around the Markete card until you find the info you want, then translate the arcade

[00:36:58] Markete card into your control scheme. It would be more useful if the button layout just tells

[00:37:03] you what the controls are for tagging, calling assist, doing snap backs and so on. I think if you

[00:37:08] are a hardcore MVC 2 fan or have a lot of nostalgia and fondness for the series this collection is an

[00:37:14] pretty much everything you would want. Yeah it would be cool to have home console versions in

[00:37:19] here as well or maybe a more robust challenge or achievement mode but if you want to play the

[00:37:24] arcade MVC games at home, portably online this is the collection for you. Now for those people

[00:37:30] who have never played any of these games and your curious should you pick up this collection. That's

[00:37:34] a bit tough. I'm thinking about the upcoming Capcom finding collection too which is the ton of

[00:37:39] in that case if you don't like plasma sword you can play Capcom versus S&K2 or if you don't

[00:37:44] like CVS 2 you can just switch the power stone. But here all the games are within the same vein.

[00:37:50] If you don't dig MVC 2 well then you're out of luck. If you're skeptical or thinking

[00:37:55] I don't know man I watched a maximum-ling-and-dude video and it seems pretty hard then

[00:37:59] you should probably wait for a sale but it is a great collection nonetheless even though I

[00:38:03] might be a bit narrow and who it appeals to. But anyways that's all for games let's move on to the

[00:38:08] future. Today's feature is about the Animal Crossing Collaboration event at Yokohama Hakage

[00:38:18] MSC Paradise and an Expansive Aquarium slash theme park about an hour outside of Tokyo.

[00:38:23] Now before you get excited the event is over and has been over for several months.

[00:38:28] I've been meaning to cover it on the podcast but of course other topics popped up so I am

[00:38:32] finally circling around back to this one. Even though it's over it's very possible that it

[00:38:37] happened again and in fact might be happening right now overseas in some capacity.

[00:38:42] Yokohama Hakage MSC Paradise is technically an amusement park since there's a variety of

[00:38:46] different attractions but unlike something like Disneyland you don't need to pay to actually

[00:38:50] enter it all the attractions are pay as you go so you can technically just enter it for free

[00:38:56] it's on Hakage Maw which is a very small island so I guess they can't for bid people from entering

[00:39:01] the island. I'm not sure how many times they've done this collab with Animal Crossing but this is at

[00:39:06] the second one with the previous one being in 2021. It lasted from late April to early July but considering

[00:39:13] how popular it seemed I imagine it will come back sooner than later. I have never been to

[00:39:18] Hakage Maw nor heard of it before I realized an Animal Crossing event was happening but my life

[00:39:22] has been to it before and I think it's fairly well known amongst Tokyoites. I think as an amusement

[00:39:27] park or a datre from Tokyo, Hakage Maw stands on its own. I mean it's a whole island that's an amusement park.

[00:39:33] You are right on the ocean and there's a lot of different fun activities and things to check out

[00:39:37] but the Animal Crossing collaboration definitely elevated it to another level. I was really impressed

[00:39:42] by just how thorough the collaboration was and when it far beyond just selling some merch with

[00:39:46] Animal Crossing characters slapped on it and it managed to capture the atmosphere of the games in

[00:39:50] a way. The first thing I'd add to the entrance of the park was a stamp book. Yes there is of course

[00:39:55] an elaborate Animal Crossing stamp rally you can take part in. Oh and I definitely nodped the paper

[00:39:59] with Tom Nook's face on it. The stamp book was only a few hundred yen but it's easily the best

[00:40:05] souvenir you could possibly take away from here even if you don't collect all the stamps. The first

[00:40:10] page has a little profile section that looks exactly like the one in the game. It also has full

[00:40:14] color maps of the park showing where the stamp locations are. Now how many stamps did I collect?

[00:40:20] One. There are actually 15 stamps to collect all throughout the park which does it seem like a whole

[00:40:25] lot but nearly every line for every single stamp had dozens of people. I was a bit shocked at

[00:40:30] just how many people were interested in the stamp rally but if you wanted them all you're

[00:40:34] cubitally going to spend about maybe an hour or two just in line. The stamp kiosk are nicely

[00:40:40] decorated though with each villager noting their birthday, zodiac sign, personality and whatnot.

[00:40:45] They look nice but one was enough for me and you'll quickly notice all the different Animal Crossing

[00:40:50] decorations all over the park. There's a ton of standies for photo ops but the main

[00:40:55] atmospheric element of the whole collaboration is the new Horizons music blasting from the speakers.

[00:41:01] Yes, you're walking around this expansive theme park next to the ocean listening to Animal Crossing

[00:41:06] Music. Honestly any public space should just be bouncing out the Animal Crossing soundtrack.

[00:41:11] It will absolutely improve social harmony. You got there around 11 am so the first thing we did

[00:41:16] I mean it's a theme park and you don't want to be stuck in an hour long line just though get something to eat.

[00:41:22] A cool thing about sea paradise is that unlike a lot of other amusement parks

[00:41:26] that just have crummy overpriced themed restaurants, there are actual restaurants inside the park.

[00:41:31] With their own buildings and everything it's not just a big food court.

[00:41:35] One is called umi farm where you can fish and then eat the fish you caught but sadly the fishing

[00:41:39] activity reservation slots were filled so we went inside my ring which is a Hawaiian themed restaurant.

[00:41:44] And yes the Animal Crossing themeie does indeed extend to the restaurants.

[00:41:49] Blathers were explaining the different types of fish in each dish on the menu.

[00:41:54] They even had little pictures of the fish from the game on there as well.

[00:41:57] Just a small fun touch but it added a lot of personality to what would have been just a typical thing.

[00:42:03] Also I'm not sure if this was part of the theme but I swear the rice I ordered was shaped like

[00:42:07] an owl's face. It had two scoops of white rice with fritacoccae on them that look kind of like

[00:42:14] in between that. I think it was supposed to be like a beak. However the menu never advertised

[00:42:19] owl rice or anything like that so it could be a coincidence but I'm gonna say it's not.

[00:42:26] In terms of other food items at the food stand called Dolphin they were serving Brewster coffee

[00:42:30] and yes it comes in a Brewster paper cup just like in the game.

[00:42:35] Sadly the line for this was pretty long and I decided I probably shouldn't wait 40 minutes in line

[00:42:39] for a decorative paper cup I will probably have to throw away. But it was there.

[00:42:45] After lunch we headed over to Aqua Museum which is one of the four main aquatic attractions.

[00:42:50] There's Aqua Museum which is a big aquarium, Dolphin Fantasy which say smaller aquarium but with Dolphins

[00:42:55] for a eye lagoon where you can touch the different fish and the four mentioned umi farm where you can catch

[00:43:00] then eat the fish. Like I said reservations are required entirely I couldn't add one but it did have

[00:43:05] an animal crossing crossover since the fish you catch then eat come in a special animal crossing

[00:43:09] cup and there's a photo spot with CJ the fishing contest beaver inside the area.

[00:43:15] But Aqua Museum is the main attraction for the entire park it's a massive multi-story aquarium

[00:43:19] inside a big glass pyramid. It also houses many of the animal crossing stamp rally kiosks

[00:43:23] but the main animal crossing thing here is that blathers is all around the museum

[00:43:28] teaching out info on the fish. Many tanks have the posters of blathers explaining the sea

[00:43:33] which is a pretty surreal thing to see in a real aquarium. There's also a big blathers

[00:43:38] standing you can get a good photo with right next to a huge water tank in the middle.

[00:43:42] There's also a section that looks like a rocky shore but with a big golfer plushy resting on

[00:43:46] the rocks. This is an awesome photo op but it is get it off so you can't get too close.

[00:43:52] Aqua Museum also has a dolphin show and yes while it is your typical affair of Dolphin

[00:43:56] is flipping around this one is set to animal crossing music so you can see Dolphin jump 50 feet in

[00:44:01] air set to k-hay bubble gum. The whole thing was again surreal who ever imagined this would

[00:44:07] ever happen and the huge screen next to the pool had animal crossing k-art. This really is an

[00:44:13] example of it into nose expanding soft power while I was in the nose bleached section

[00:44:17] it was actually probably one of the better spots since I could easily see everything in here

[00:44:21] that sweet sweet k-k music. As an aquarium by itself Aqua Museum is one of the more impressive

[00:44:26] ones in the Tokyo vicinity I guess it's not surprising that Japan in general has many many

[00:44:31] incredible aquariums. Dolphin fantasy is much smaller but it has one of those long

[00:44:36] aquarium hallways with fish swimming above you including the titular dolphin. The big k-k

[00:44:41] cyder standy is inside here as well which is probably the most fun photo op because

[00:44:45] who doesn't want to picture with k-k. This place isn't as crowded as Aqua Museum but it does

[00:44:50] have some stamp kiosk so if you just want to nap a single stamp here's where you do it.

[00:44:54] For a i-logoon where you can touch the fish and whatnot doesn't have a whole lot going on

[00:44:58] but there are some standies here including the auto Pascal as well as the dust makes sense that

[00:45:03] he would be over here. This area also has a small bird show again set to animal crossing music.

[00:45:08] Not as spectacular as the dolphin but you know birds are trying their best. For a i-logoon

[00:45:13] also has a large merge store including a lot of exclusive animal crossing items. It's mostly just

[00:45:18] the k-art of the event which is kind of generic new horizons art but with the CPARDI logo on it.

[00:45:24] The show was kind of cool but the best thing to buy was the stamp book so I was okay

[00:45:29] so I didn't realize. I'm probably enough they were actually selling Nintendo Switches and

[00:45:34] Animal Crossing New Horizons inside the merge store and not only that they were also selling

[00:45:39] inless ocean luminous. Yes those actually quite a large display for inless ocean luminous

[00:45:45] including some pamphlets about the game. And on the video screen near dolphin fantasy

[00:45:49] they were showing the trailer for inless ocean. I guess I make the perfect sense to advertise

[00:45:53] that game here but it was a bit unusual to see. Before we head at home I stopped by the arcade

[00:45:58] and by arcade I mean like 1950s carnival games. They had a shooting gallery, some weird bowling

[00:46:04] game, ring toss, that kind of stuff. The decorations were pretty stellar it did look like you

[00:46:09] slipped back in time. There's also kind of a mall inside the park that sells random souvenirs,

[00:46:15] food, snacks, it's just a comfy air condition place to walk around and if you want to get out

[00:46:20] I really loved how they wove Animal Crossing into the park. Things like where they stage the

[00:46:25] photo ops baits sense and the atmosphere with the music was great and how gauging as a whole is a

[00:46:29] pretty fun experience. Not as mind-blowing as a big amusement park like Disney or Yomi Udyland

[00:46:34] but the scenery is top notch and there's quite a bit to do. Not to my understanding aquariums all

[00:46:39] over the world have had some sort of animal crossing collaboration. I just looked up an animal crossing

[00:46:44] collaboration with the Seattle Aquarium and it has the exact same key art just with the logo

[00:46:49] swapped out. The Seattle event has photo ops with characters, a smartphone, scavenger hunt

[00:46:54] and the blathers explanations on the tanks so some things are similar while others are not.

[00:46:59] It seems that not all clabs are made equally and it would be hard to imagine another place

[00:47:03] has one to the level of Hakejima considering the nature of it being more of an amusement park

[00:47:07] than just being one aquarium. I'd definitely be interested in going back another year in this

[00:47:12] time. I'm going to catch my own fish. That's how they do it in the Animal Crossing world. I don't

[00:47:17] see villager buying fish from the noklings. But that's it for the future so let's check out some news.

[00:47:28] No I normally don't talk about random rumors but this has been definitely the hottest topic

[00:47:31] amongst in Hino fans these past few days. Supposed leaks of CGI randrings of switch to hardware

[00:47:37] along with some photos of what maybe the new joycons. These were posted on Reddit but allegedly

[00:47:42] came from a source at a Chinese factory manufacturing these switch too. Could they be fake or

[00:47:47] a complete hoax? Yes possibly but sometimes I've tried saying that there are some inner details

[00:47:53] that would be very difficult to fake. In short it looks like a bigger thinner switch. The screen

[00:47:59] is significantly larger and it does look like the edges of the console are a bit more rounder

[00:48:03] than the original switch. There are things to be in additional USB-C port at the top possibly for

[00:48:08] peripherals or charging in tabletop mode. The attachment parts of the joycons do look different

[00:48:12] as well which may be wonder if switch one joycons are just incompatible for handheld mode.

[00:48:18] Otherwise they functionally look the same. So while if true this is the biggest incident

[00:48:22] a hardware leaking years still not a hole to actually go on there is some spec info out there

[00:48:28] as well but it's unknown whether the info is out of data not. But the spec's shared make it seem

[00:48:33] like it's closer to the PS4 or Xbox Series S in terms of specs which is what many expected.

[00:48:39] But the real X-factor is going to be how it utilizes DLSS. You can't just look at a sheet and say

[00:48:45] I yes this will run out in ring no problem but it probably can right? There's been a ton of other

[00:48:51] rumors surrounding switch too such as that it will use multiple screens in some capacity such as

[00:48:54] having a quote reverse Wii U where you can stream to the dock via the handheld. The first

[00:48:59] reverse Wii U doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence unless you consider the switch one to

[00:49:03] be the reverse Wii U since that was actually successful. I'm very skeptical about any sort

[00:49:09] of dual screen gimmick because as we saw with the Wii U it is just inherently more difficult

[00:49:14] to have dual screens with one being a giant TV. It's one thing of the screens are right on top of

[00:49:19] each other but another when you're lounging on the couch and add the switch on your hips but this

[00:49:24] rumor could be totally bunk or maybe didn't do figure out some genius way to implement it we will

[00:49:28] see with these new leagues people have been getting very impatient about when they are actually

[00:49:32] going to reveal the switch too. Spoilers it will be before March 31st. Some swear by a September

[00:49:38] reveal others October like switch one some are predicting they will wait until next year as not

[00:49:43] to undercut their holiday sales honestly at this point is purely just guesswork. All options are

[00:49:50] both feasible and not feasible at the same time. It's troading your console reveal. Switch still

[00:49:55] quite a few big games coming out so just relax play those and switch to announcement we'll be here

[00:50:00] sooner than later. Splatoon 3's Grand Festival was a few days ago with Team Pass aka Cali and Marie

[00:50:06] taking the crown. A bit unexpected to be honest they seem like Team present was the overwhelming

[00:50:10] favorite. The event was pretty fantastic the concept of it was amazing and incredibly detailed.

[00:50:16] You had food trucks, merch stands, color showers, floating platforms they absolutely nailed

[00:50:22] the presentation and it is a really wild thing to put together since both people will only

[00:50:27] experience it once. You can go back to this hub via one of the new idol amiibo's but for the

[00:50:32] vast majority this was it. Since Team Passed 1 people have been wondering if it will affect Splatoon 4

[00:50:37] story. If you don't know Marie won Splatoon 1's big spot fest which led to Cali being captured in

[00:50:43] Splatoon 2's storyline since she was upset she lost. Splatoon 2's big festival was order versus chaos

[00:50:49] with chaos winning which led to the chaotic design of the hub world while order was the inspiration

[00:50:53] for the DLC mode. So how would they implement past in Splatoon 4? I mean you could just do

[00:51:00] traditional Japanese themed hub which would be pretty sweet. The story mode of Splatoon 3 was already

[00:51:05] kind of focused on the past but maybe Splatoon 4 will focus on the beginnings of the inklings.

[00:51:10] Again just bitballing here it could be a million different things. I feel like the Splatoon

[00:51:14] storyline wrapped pretty well in the third game so I am curious about what they even do in the

[00:51:18] fourth title. Hey remember the secret of mother 2 slash earthbound exhibit I talked about a few

[00:51:23] episodes ago? Well hope one each is putting out a book featuring the documents inside the exhibit

[00:51:27] and more. Yes there would even be some new information in documents that were not shown at the

[00:51:32] exhibit inside the book. At the exhibit they were quite strict about photo so it makes sense that

[00:51:37] they were cooking up a book but if you are a hardcore earthbound fan it's definitely worth picking up

[00:51:41] if you can speak Japanese. I am curious if it does get translated but that seems unlikely since a lot

[00:51:48] of the documents are just handwritten scribbles on paper. But the concept art and unused enemy designs

[00:51:53] are also included and those are pretty fun to look at so you've got something there at least.
