[00:00:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Tokyo Game Life, a Tokyo-based video game podcast focusing on Nintendo and gaming

[00:00:14] [SPEAKER_00]: culture in Japan's capital.

[00:00:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Your host Mono here to bring you a slice of gaming life from Tokyo.

[00:00:20] [SPEAKER_00]: We're leading off the game section today as for training guests Joshua Goldie, aka

[00:00:24] [SPEAKER_00]: the Nintendo Chronicle, joins the chat about marvelous another Treasure Island, a Japan

[00:00:29] [SPEAKER_00]: only super Famicom title that was A.G. Alnumus Directoral debut.

[00:00:33] [SPEAKER_00]: We dive into the game's fascinating origins as a CD title, its unique gameplay, the influence

[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_00]: on Zelda and everything else.

[00:00:41] [SPEAKER_00]: For the feature I take you to Yokohama to visit the activity field at Dragon Quest Carnival.

[00:00:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Warning for the screen-ish, there will be giant slimes.

[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's start with the game section and Marvelous, another Treasure Island with Joshua Goldie.

[00:01:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Today we're leading off for the game section to chat about 1996's Marvelous, another Treasure

[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Island, a Japan only game with a fascinating legacy that recently hit Nintendo Switch online.

[00:01:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Joining me to chat all about the game is a special guest, so please introduce yourself.

[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Back, it's me, the Nintendo Chronicle Earth, Joshua Goldie from I was on the another

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_02]: code episode.

[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Don't go game life.

[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_02]: However many months ago that was now.

[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back.

[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's good to be back and we're talking about a game that I really, in fact, the first

[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_02]: game that's on my channel.

[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_02]: So this is a special one for me.

[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you last showed up on the podcast to chat about another code, a recollection, which

[00:01:39] [SPEAKER_00]: is a fairly obscure game in the Nintendo Pantheon.

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: But now we're getting even more obscure.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: That means next time we can just go down the iceberg of a obscure Nintendo game.

[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_02]: This is not talking about a game that no one has heard of.

[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people probably haven't heard of, but it is quite an important game I would say

[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_00]: and at least an interesting one.

[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: So Joshua, let's start at the beginning what is Marvelous, another Treasure Island?

[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_02]: So Marvelous is a game that was made by a very young team at Nintendo back in the 90s.

[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_02]: I should say they're not young now.

[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_02]: It could kind of compare it almost to Splatoon, but back then for the Super Nintendo.

[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_02]: And it was an adventure game, very similar, it looks to a legend as I would have linked

[00:02:20] [SPEAKER_02]: to the past.

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_02]: But style more a point and click adventure game.

[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_02]: There was this significantly less focus on combat.

[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Although there was a bit of it.

[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_02]: And instead of on searching the environment, finding items, solving puzzles and making use

[00:02:34] [SPEAKER_02]: of your three protagonists.

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Because that's kind of the main hook.

[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_02]: It's Legenders Elder, but there are three of them, Dion Max and Jack, who are these three

[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_02]: boys who were out on a summer camp when pirates invade that the island they're on their

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_02]: camping trip for.

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_02]: And they have to set off on this pirate ship and go find all these keys to get the legendary

[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_02]: pirate treasure.

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_02]: And each of the boys have their own inventory with unique items and they will get their

[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_02]: own special abilities.

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_02]: They can do Dion is a small little guy who can run really fast and crawl into tight spaces.

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Max is the middle one of the group.

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_02]: He's a wide big guy, he's the strongest.

[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_02]: He can attack.

[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Dion can attack as well by throwing baseballs, but Max can actually punch people

[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_02]: and kick footballs at them.

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_02]: And he's just good for all the power puzzles.

[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_02]: And then Jack is this tall guy who can jump really far, reach high places and he's also

[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_02]: the nerd of the group.

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_02]: So they cause they give him all of the techy stuff.

[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_02]: He can fix things and use devices that the other two don't understand.

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_02]: And you've got to go through these, almost episodes of a TV show.

[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_02]: You go to different islands in each island has his own set-prope, little story with some

[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_02]: overarching plot points.

[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_02]: And it always results in usually a boss fight where you get a magical orb that you need

[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_02]: a crystal ball and you need to get all the hell of a many of the mark I'm going to

[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_02]: stop my head now.

[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_02]: But you take them all back and out just the keys to the pirate treasure that's hidden

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_02]: on the initial first island.

[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_02]: And so it's kind of episodic in that way.

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_02]: But it's fun.

[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_02]: It's really interesting little story.

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_02]: And it's got lots of different characters in it.

[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_02]: They're all quite fun to just find out what their whole deal is.

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_02]: And it messes with some sci-fi themes.

[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_02]: There's one entire chapter that has time travel in it.

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_02]: And there's a invasion of the body snatchers.

[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, that's a movie.

[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's an entire chapter that's basically a parody of that.

[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Where you're in a jungle and these plant monsters are taking over.

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_02]: And then that same chapter you have to get this gorilla out of the way by having

[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_02]: him fall in love with the Lady gorilla.

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_02]: There were lots of really light-hearted silly moments.

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Joyed throughout the game is an entire penguin dating mini game that takes place in

[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_02]: one of the chapters.

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_02]: It's very fun.

[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_00]: You happen to remember how you first came across the game.

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_02]: So I was big into looking up random obscure games.

[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks a super smash brothers.

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_02]: So Marvel didn't actually make any appearances super smash brothers until ultimate.

[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_02]: But at that point I had played it.

[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_02]: I probably imagined that I was looking up potential characters for super smash brothers

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_02]: or something like that because I know that's how I found characters like Souty Hackon.

[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_02]: There's nothing really obscure, super Nintendo game.

[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_02]: So I probably found the three main characters from that and fell down the rabbit hole.

[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_02]: And then when I actually looked at the visuals and it's very much to the past coded in

[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_02]: how it looks.

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, oh, this looks really cool.

[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_02]: I want to play this at some point.

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_02]: And I know when I first played it I actually owned a cartridge for Marvelous.

[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_02]: When I was in Japan for the first time back in 2014, obviously you go retro game shopping.

[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_02]: You go to a happy harbor and you look around and I found just the cartridge from Marvelous.

[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_02]: I kind of wish I had a box copy now but back then I was happy to have any copy of it.

[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_02]: So I picked up the game and I picked up a few other super Nintendo games, junior allergy

[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_02]: other holy wall and I bought a super Famicom to bring back and just started playing

[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_02]: through all of these games.

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_02]: And obviously Marvelous is quite a text heavy came so I didn't fully know what I was doing back

[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_02]: when I first played it.

[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_02]: But I eventually found out that there was fan translation they got made.

[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_02]: So I decided to play that on an emulator to actually finish the game and it was good.

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I enjoyed it.

[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_02]: There's actually another fan translation, a more refined one that I'm waiting on to do another

[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_02]: replay of it.

[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's cool.

[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_02]: I've been following the development of that.

[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_02]: They're doing it so the original fan translation is kind of a very simple and just replacing

[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_02]: the text.

[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Right.

[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_02]: English.

[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_02]: This is more of a what if Nintendo actually localized the game, put it in all the extra

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_02]: efforts and there's graphical changes, there's a logo, there's lots of different edits

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_02]: to the scripts that would feel more natural for an official Nintendo release.

[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_02]: It's a really cool project but I have no idea when it's going to be finished.

[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for me, I don't really remember how I learned about the game.

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_00]: It was probably just something I stumbled upon.

[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously the main thing that caught my attention was that it was directed by none other

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: than A.G.

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know him.

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_00]: But he wasn't A.G.

[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll know him at this time, right?

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_02]: No, he wasn't his A.G.

[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_02]: On a zoo.

[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I should have written that down.

[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, could you want to zuka?

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_02]: There we go.

[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_02]: It got it's got that for memory.

[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this was something I had no idea that even happened until I started doing a research

[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_00]: for the episode.

[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he was A.G.

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_00]: On a zuka and then changed his name to his wife's surname once he got married.

[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't really find the main source for this but multiple people on the internet have said

[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_00]: so, so it must be true.

[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I can only assume that the source is that his wife presumably has A numerous

[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_02]: her last name.

[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, maybe.

[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_02]: And people are like, oh, this guy is the same guy and his name has changed between this

[00:07:45] [SPEAKER_02]: point so logically that must be the reason.

[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I read that 5% of men in Japan change their name to their wife's surname.

[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_00]: It seems kind of high.

[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I personally never met anyone who's done this.

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_00]: The other only fictional example I can think of is Gendo Ikari from Ewing Galion.

[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_00]: But either way, whatever his name was he did record marvelous and besides Al-Numa did any other

[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_00]: notable devs work on this game.

[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so there's a famous definitely the most famous.

[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_02]: And there are a few others that sort of went on and still work in Nintendo so there was

[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_02]: a sub director for the game called Mr. Hero Takano who went on to direct 1080 Snowboarding

[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_02]: and work quite closely with a team behind Star Fox 64 and tank troopers and he worked on Zelda

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_02]: games.

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I'll create a time to Twilight Princess.

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_02]: He worked on all four of those Zelda games with A&OMA.

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_02]: I think tank troopers is his latest game.

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm assuming he's still working in Nintendo because that game came out in like 2017.

[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_02]: So, in the 2016 event.

[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_02]: But there's a Yoshinori Succiama who was the graphic lead for this.

[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_02]: He did all the character designs and he went on to go work on a ton of Satellar View games.

[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Which was the same for you, Echios Aki, who did all the music.

[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_02]: He also went on to work on a bunch of the Satellar View games.

[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_02]: And now Succiama, I think the latest game he worked on was Princess Peach Showtime.

[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_02]: He worked on that as a supervisor and those Aki has done sound stuff for like Metroid

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Dread and sounds returns.

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Pilot Wings Resort.

[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_02]: He's done a lot of technical sound and I don't think he comes up with the OST himself but

[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_02]: does what it's implementation into the games.

[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_02]: The techie parts of it.

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_02]: The main names behind the game.

[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Other than Miyamoto who decided on who was going to put the talent put the team together

[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_02]: and the producer of the game whose name is leaving my mind right now but he's the producer

[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_02]: of tons of their older games.

[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_02]: He's the guy who basically made the NES and Famicom.

[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_02]: The coolest, yeah I believe that's his name.

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_02]: You mirror, yeah.

[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's your key to the.

[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_00]: The father of the Famicom.

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_00]: You can consider him.

[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, there was definitely a lot of notable people who worked on this game kind

[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_00]: of an all-star team but maybe before they were all stars, they worked on this game.

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_02]: And we all saw a team.

[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, especially you know, this is the game I'll new my work on before he became the lead

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_00]: producer of Zelda so it is sort of a, I want to say, proto Zelda game even though it's

[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_00]: very obviously inspired by a link to the past but there's definitely a lot of Zelda influence

[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_00]: in this game.

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think another notable element of the game is that the development is quite interesting.

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't always intended to just be on an SNES cart.

[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Can you delve into the original plan for the game?

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so part of the reason for doing this wasn't just to test out what the new team could do.

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Nintendo were planning on having the SNES CD which is an entire other rabbit hole of information.

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but obviously it never came out.

[00:10:46] [SPEAKER_02]: But the idea was that this was going to be like the new IP that would launch with the

[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Super Nintendo CD similar to how F0 and pilot wings would the new IP that would show

[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_02]: what the Super Nintendo could do.

[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_02]: So that was kind of the focus and they went all out with it.

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_02]: It was going to have animated cutscenes with voice acting.

[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_02]: They teamed up with Q&A, Q&A, Q-to animation who worked on stuff like Co-On and

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Manad, the melancholy of Haru-E's Susimia.

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_02]: This was before they had gotten it this big, so this is before they'd worked on any

[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_02]: other shows.

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_02]: But they did all the animation that would be on this.

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_02]: And the story wasn't massively different when they eventually jumped to the SNES.

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_02]: It was definitely more of a technical change, but there were obviously they couldn't use

[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_02]: any of the cutscenes.

[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_02]: And so they did rewrite the story so that the original version has Captain Maverick who's

[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_02]: the pirate king, the pirate who's treasure everyone is after.

[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_02]: In the original version he was a guy who fought against pirates and stole their treasure

[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_02]: rather than being a pirate himself.

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_02]: And the story was going to be about the boys who idolized him, were following him on

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_02]: his adventures.

[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_02]: You'd go on to the different islands that he was on and find out what he has just done

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_02]: as they try and catch up to him.

[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_02]: But then obviously in the final one they decided to scrap there and have him be the deceased

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_02]: pirate that they're going.

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_02]: It was more treasure island inspired, I guess, the original.

[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it was going to be on that and they were going to go all out with the presentation.

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_02]: But then the SNES CD just didn't happen.

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_02]: And so they had to share of all of that.

[00:12:25] [SPEAKER_02]: But one of the reasons the story actually changed was because they still wanted to use all

[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_02]: stuff from the SNES CD version.

[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_02]: And we're kind of hoping that maybe if they got to do a sequel or something they could

[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_02]: reuse all that animation.

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_02]: If they made a 64 version, if that could run the cutscenes and they could reuse it all.

[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_02]: So they just put that to the end made this sort of based on but different story for the final

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_02]: product.

[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_02]: That was the main thing that it being on the SNES CD kind of allowed them to do just way

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_02]: to highlight a presentation than anything that the SNES is seen up to that point.

[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's definitely an ambitious game and a lot of people might assume that it's a

[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Zelda clone but while it's only borrows a lot of inspiration from Zelda, the gameplay structure

[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_00]: is very different from that series.

[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_00]: What gameplay aspect would you say is marvelous as most unique elements?

[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Either the character swap in mechanic because obviously as you would see it from just on

[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_02]: the outside, it's Zelda game but you have three playable characters that you swap between

[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_02]: and you know if you're controlling because they have the leaders cap which is usually

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_02]: on pieces of art you'll see D on wearing it but in game or three of the boys will wear

[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_02]: it.

[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_02]: And that's idea where you can split them up or they all follow on behind each other

[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_02]: and the game will jump to their location.

[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_02]: That's a big part of this game using all three of them to get simultaneously and teaming

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_02]: up together so you can kind of like force swords or force swords adventures where you

[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_02]: could do the half the four links and they get into a formation and then only when they're

[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_02]: in that formation can they pick up big blocks or push big boulders and stuff.

[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_02]: You could do that if there are three of them with together then you'd have button mash

[00:14:10] [SPEAKER_02]: A on certain context-censative areas to lift up huge boulders or push mine cards and stuff

[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_02]: like that.

[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_02]: That's probably the most unique part of the game but I'd say the thing it's really based

[00:14:25] [SPEAKER_02]: around is the point in click aspect of it.

[00:14:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, you have the usual Zelda looking gameplay where you run around or that but then if

[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_02]: you press a button it goes into like a mouse I think a finger at hand and you click on stuff

[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_02]: around the environment and then they'll comment on it or something will react to it or you'll

[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_02]: find a item from it and if you talk to somebody if it's a key character like Miss Gina then

[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_02]: the scene will change to the first person view where you can see the character in front of you

[00:14:57] [SPEAKER_02]: and they're profile and then you can touch and stuff around the environmental poke them

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_02]: and get there really annoyed at you if you do it.

[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_02]: I'd say from a gameplay perspective that's kind of what makes Marvelous really unique because

[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_02]: it just takes elements from the adventure game genre that was usually found at PC at that point

[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_02]: and puts it into the super Nintendo. I actually kind of think if they'd made this game for like

[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_02]: DS or remade it for DS or something like that it would be the perfect system for it because you

[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_02]: can have the touch screen just to be the point in click part of the game and you wouldn't have to

[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_02]: swap between the two because I think that's the one issue I've got with Marvelous and its gameplay

[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_02]: systems it's kind of clunky it's trying to do a lot of stuff the inventory management is very

[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_02]: clunky as all three boys have their own inventories to sort through they can all but equip one item at

[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_02]: a time so you haven't till constantly bringing up the menu for each of the boys and changing

[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_02]: their which item they've got equipment for us I think nowadays if the game was to be remade it would

[00:16:02] [SPEAKER_02]: have a press R or L or Z Z R and Z L on the switch joycons and it would just cycle through each

[00:16:10] [SPEAKER_02]: whoever's the players character at that moment it's cycle through their items there's a lot of

[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_02]: ways I think you could improve that game and make it less clunky which they couldn't do back in

[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_02]: the SNES days due to lack of buttons and I guess it's the hardware power. Right yeah for me it's

[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_00]: definitely the blend between the kind of top-downs of the exploration and the old school menu

[00:16:30] [SPEAKER_00]: based investigation segments that really stuck out to me it's a bit strange because you don't

[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_00]: really see that kind of you know pointing click aspect especially in console games so it is an

[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_00]: interesting blend between okay Zalda is bringing forth a more modern kind of streamlined way you

[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_00]: interact with items or the items in the world and especially when to get to a lot of time it totally

[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_00]: revolutionizes that so it's a really interesting idea that it blends both of them because you

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_00]: can essentially yeah zoom in on objects and you can be very precise about where you click on for

[00:17:06] [SPEAKER_00]: example there's one mission where you have to kind of annoy a rat so you can click on the

[00:17:12] [SPEAKER_00]: rats tail you can click on it space you can click on it's nose so being that precise is really

[00:17:16] [SPEAKER_00]: unique or this type of Zelda inspired game but I think yeah there's a reason why we moved away

[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_00]: from this type of input that that especially on console games and you also mentioned the controlling

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_00]: the three characters what do you think about this character stopping mechanic do you think was

[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_00]: implemented well or do you think is one of the strongest elements or did it a bit clunky yeah I would

[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_02]: say the actual character swapping part of it is implemented fine you cycle through the three boys

[00:17:43] [SPEAKER_02]: they can be split up they can be joined together it's easy to control them all I say the only times

[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_02]: where it becomes clunky is the further you get into the game when you start having a ton of items

[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_02]: and you need to be constantly swapping whether one I mentioned before the invasion of the

[00:17:59] [SPEAKER_02]: body snatcher sort of segment that's one of those few segments where there is quite a bit of combat

[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_02]: going on so you have to swap to de-on and throw the baseballs at them to keep them from getting near

[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_02]: you and then you've got to swap to max or maybe it's jackass a lamp or something like that I'm

[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_02]: trying to remember which you need to do to get through because it's dark and night and then you

[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_02]: are swap to max to do some plot plot puzzles or something like there's a lot of swapping between

[00:18:21] [SPEAKER_02]: to make use of each character's abilities and max also has poly this little fairy girl who you need

[00:18:27] [SPEAKER_02]: for various little missions and so you've got to swap to him to use her and then swap back

[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_02]: to jack in order to do this and I think it's fine at the start of the game when there's very few

[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_02]: things each character can do but further it goes on the longer time it takes to actually do the action

[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_02]: you want because you're swapping character opening up inventory clicking on the right thing make sure

[00:18:51] [SPEAKER_02]: quick to then do in this and then swap into the next character and repeating over and over again

[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_02]: I'd say that's the one downside of having a three character system but it from a technical standpoint

[00:19:04] [SPEAKER_02]: it's very impressive to do this I link to the past originally dabbled with the idea of having

[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_02]: three playable party members I think there's the hero the mage and thief or something like that

[00:19:19] [SPEAKER_02]: but they just couldn't get it to work and decided to focus on the hero being link obviously

[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_02]: but with this game being much later into the super Nintendo's life cycle they had the super

[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_02]: accelerator one chip that they could take advantage of which was the special chip that is used in

[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Kobe superstar and Mario RPG that gave the games more CPU power and it's true that that they were

[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_02]: able to make this three persons Zelda game because you needed that in order to animate all three characters

[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_02]: at once and keep track of their location in the world all times and be able to jump between them

[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_02]: with very little lag and loading required so it's definitely very technically impressive.

[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah on the javnings box it does say the SA one chip on the cover so they were really pushing

[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_00]: them and I really like the characters while being element definitely very technically impressive

[00:20:11] [SPEAKER_00]: and yeah you might think it is cumbersome at first to control three characters because yeah I'm

[00:20:16] [SPEAKER_00]: getting some Pikmin three flashbacks right now but it was way smoother than I imagined and yes one

[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_00]: button to pick who you want to control and honestly I love that they switch the hats that there's a

[00:20:27] [SPEAKER_00]: leader hat yes because yet on the cover art the on is where in the hat and so when I can switch

[00:20:32] [SPEAKER_00]: the hat it kind of blew my mind of oh wow anyone can just wear the hat that's such a fun little

[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_00]: addition and you could also make them all come together and they follow you in a line kind of like

[00:20:43] [SPEAKER_00]: having a dry inquest just your gRPG party is roaming around and one of the first puzzles in the

[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_00]: game really highlights all the fun things you can do with the putting them together and splitting

[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_00]: the splitting them up yeah already mentioned this but the rat he runs into a tent and then you

[00:20:58] [SPEAKER_00]: have to use one boy to block the hole the rat came in and use one boy to block the entrance to the

[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_00]: tent so the rat can't get out and then one boy goes in the tent to investigate you don't really

[00:21:10] [SPEAKER_00]: see that in Zelda for example so it stands out as really unique element that you can take advantage

[00:21:15] [SPEAKER_02]: of having three characters and yeah puzzle games are a quite a strategy and really thinking

[00:21:20] [SPEAKER_02]: about what the puzzle is from outside the box sort of perspective where did the pieces all go

[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_02]: you don't get out of tall in Zelda because they just don't have that mechanic really except for

[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_02]: maybe fan to malware glass because I had the fan to me could have no spirit tracks that's

[00:21:36] [SPEAKER_02]: all the time to make it true throw even then I can't think if they actually did any puzzles that

[00:21:40] [SPEAKER_00]: in that game yeah and like in Zelda there are items in the game and each boy has specific item

[00:21:45] [SPEAKER_00]: which you mentioned which I guess eventually becomes cumbersome but it is kind of an interesting

[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_00]: idea that okay this boy can only use this one item max he gets cleats so he can kick and

[00:21:56] [SPEAKER_00]: the youngest of fishing rod and jack is the baseball club do a favorite character you like to control

[00:22:01] [SPEAKER_02]: and for three boys I think max is my favorite character he's the most durable he gets the

[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_02]: boxing glove and the cleats for his range weapons you can start kicking stuff.

[00:22:12] [SPEAKER_02]: I know he's just a nice guy and then at the end towards the end of the game obviously I don't

[00:22:16] [SPEAKER_02]: want to spoil things but there's a decision you have to make with the boys and I always find

[00:22:23] [SPEAKER_02]: the max is the best option for that when it's sort of made me in deer hit him more in that moment

[00:22:28] [SPEAKER_00]: see I got a lot of max. I really like max as well because yeah he's the tough guy and he

[00:22:33] [SPEAKER_00]: is kind of an unorthodox character that you'd play as in a video game he looks kind of like

[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_00]: porcupine from earth yeah but he's the good porcupine so you're trying to type ox high.

[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah Dion he kind of looks like what you would expect as a protagonist of looking at this type of

[00:22:48] [SPEAKER_00]: game so yeah I would like that oh you can be back and I do all these fun things is there any other

[00:22:53] [SPEAKER_00]: gameplay element that really sticks out in your mind besides the ones we talked about.

[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_02]: I think those are the main ones that really stick out to me. I do like a lot of the sort of

[00:23:03] [SPEAKER_02]: scenarios and stuff rather than the gameplay elements in this and I suppose there's that one

[00:23:10] [SPEAKER_02]: the what they called now the shards you find the yellow shards. The luck rocks. Yes the luck

[00:23:16] [SPEAKER_02]: rocks because they're scattered everywhere basically that the main collectible of the game

[00:23:21] [SPEAKER_02]: and it's very easy to miss them because of the way that the game is structures you don't

[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_02]: really go back to islands once you leave. So it's very easy to miss luck rocks but they are

[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_02]: a key reward that you can use so I think you can use them you get ranked based on how many you

[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_02]: get and you can use them for hints because there's a hint system in the game

[00:23:41] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm a crook play it's been a bit to since I played it yeah I remember the luck rock mechanic

[00:23:47] [SPEAKER_00]: being an interesting addition. Yeah for me not only gameplay element but I really like the

[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_00]: pixel art graphics of the game it looks very very nice. Yeah and all the characters look great

[00:23:58] [SPEAKER_00]: and especially when you zoom in on the investigation scenes they are really nicely detailed

[00:24:03] [SPEAKER_00]: pixel art but still maintaining the art style so yeah it's a really nice looking game and also this

[00:24:09] [SPEAKER_00]: is a weird one but the Japanese font looks really nice and clean because very easy to read

[00:24:14] [SPEAKER_00]: and sometimes it'll change for example to get really big when the monkey speak so yeah it's the weird

[00:24:20] [SPEAKER_00]: thing but a lot of text and especially 8 bit games it is Japanese it's really hard to parse so

[00:24:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I was really appreciative that okay the text in this game is really really beautiful in Japanese.

[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Now Ajionuma obviously works on the game then it was straight to Zelda where he stayed

[00:24:36] [SPEAKER_00]: and no complaints considering all he's accomplished with that series but is there any element

[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_00]: of later Zelda games that you think might have been inspired by marvelous? I think I brought

[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_02]: before but four swords and four swords adventures definitely has marvelous elements in it and you

[00:24:54] [SPEAKER_02]: can kind of tell at the time especially if four swords adventures that A'Numa was thinking about

[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_02]: marvelous because in Japan there were Tetris trackers which was this Japanese exclusive mode where

[00:25:06] [SPEAKER_02]: it was basically a remake of the Satellar View Marvelous games and originally began development

[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_02]: as a marvelous game on the GameCube and there's 3D models of Jeena and Deon and players would

[00:25:22] [SPEAKER_02]: run around and speak to the pirates well then they became pirates I don't know who they would have

[00:25:27] [SPEAKER_02]: been probably count so the Lazzle just a random NPCs from Marvelous but in Tetris track is

[00:25:33] [SPEAKER_02]: it's Tetris Pirate crew and Tetra comments over the game when it would be misjena instead

[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_02]: commenting over the game very much like this to tell a few games that I'm sure we'll talk about in

[00:25:44] [SPEAKER_02]: but the fact that it was a marvelous game and then it basically got retort to be as

[00:25:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Zelda game presumably because they could sell Zelda better right they can include it as part of

[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_02]: four swords I would say that that game is definitely inspired quite heavily by marvelous

[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't imagine that A'Numa also got a lot of his puzzle design thinking for games from

[00:26:08] [SPEAKER_02]: because looking at his history the only thing he'd done before this was near soap and tournament

[00:26:13] [SPEAKER_02]: golf weighted graphics when he joined on a arena of time and he was the director of all the dungeons

[00:26:20] [SPEAKER_02]: that meant he was now in charge of having to come up with all of the puzzles and the progression

[00:26:24] [SPEAKER_02]: and stuff from dungeons the items that you'd need to get through in a way that is very

[00:26:31] [SPEAKER_02]: mad thinking about it you go into a dungeon you get a specific item and then you figure out the

[00:26:37] [SPEAKER_02]: item to progress it's got that sort of adventure game kind of feel to it and he probably

[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_02]: marvelous was probably training his brain up to come up with puzzles like that they could then

[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_02]: use in a more action-oriented way in the Zelda series at least the ones he was directing

[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_02]: it which then went on to influence all the games up till breath of the wild really when they obviously

[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_00]: retort how that series works yeah for us as a venture to come to mind also try for us heroes

[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe even a close technology because you have literally three different characters and so yeah

[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_00]: let's get into the setelevue games while Marvel this is one game it might technically be a series

[00:27:18] [SPEAKER_00]: because there are spin-offs or these to tell of you what are these games and how are they different

[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_02]: from the main game so there's two let's tell of you there's BS Marvelous Time Athletic which was the first one

[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_02]: and actually technically that's the first Marvelous game because it came out before Marvelous did

[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_02]: and then BS Marvelous Camp Arnold which came out afterwards and the two are time athletic

[00:27:42] [SPEAKER_02]: and camp Arnold pretty much played the same the only differences the map it's on and the game is

[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_02]: stamp rally so what a stamp rally is for those who don't know in Japan it's just a thing where

[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_02]: you get a book and you'd go to various locations in a town or city usually it's train stations

[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_02]: and then you get a stamp from someone there and then you have to go around you have to collect all the

[00:28:07] [SPEAKER_02]: stamps and if you collect all the stamps and you get a prize it's usually done as entertainment for

[00:28:12] [SPEAKER_02]: kids and for events and stuff like that you can still do it when I was living in Kyoto I went

[00:28:18] [SPEAKER_02]: and I had a book and if there were stamps at train stations I would get them and just slowly fill

[00:28:25] [SPEAKER_02]: up this book full of stamps and the idea was to turn that into a game so in time that you play

[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_02]: this Dion in both games and in time athletic you're on the ship that's on its way to camp Arnold

[00:28:36] [SPEAKER_02]: and then obviously the camp Arnold won you're in the camp Arnold and it's a bigger map and you just

[00:28:41] [SPEAKER_02]: run around and you've got to find all of the stamps pretty much I don't think they actually

[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_02]: stamps I don't remember they might be luck rocks to be fair I don't remember exactly what you're

[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_02]: picking up but as you're doing this you'd get commentary from Miss Gina and Mr Arnold

[00:28:57] [SPEAKER_02]: who would both just talk about how the game is going and discuss various changes that are happening

[00:29:04] [SPEAKER_02]: to the map and that would give you hints as to where to go and it was just a really if the

[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_02]: question of how fast can you beat it hence time athletic how far quickly can you run around this

[00:29:16] [SPEAKER_02]: map and find all the collectables which is what Tetris trackers then became but with pirates instead

[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah I had no idea that Tetris trackers was secretly a marvelous game originally and there's

[00:29:29] [SPEAKER_00]: even in your video as well there's even art or maybe how does describe it concept right yeah

[00:29:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Miss Gina became tetra what kind of mind blowing yeah that's 3D models made for Miss Gina

[00:29:41] [SPEAKER_02]: and then there's we haven't seen a full 3D model for deal but we do have UI and hard to icons for them

[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_02]: with different faces and stuff it's just exactly what would happen with Lincoln the end somewhere there

[00:29:53] [SPEAKER_02]: is a 3D model of Dion in different colors that they've got we only have these files because

[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_02]: they were accidentally left in the game for Tetris trackers this is left over graphic data that

[00:30:06] [SPEAKER_02]: they forgot to remove I don't think they've ever talked about marvelous being a Tetris tracker

[00:30:13] [SPEAKER_02]: maybe a new ma dropped it in a random interview somewhere but I don't as far as I know

[00:30:19] [SPEAKER_02]: at least as far as I remember it's not been brought up yeah unfortunately this game never came out

[00:30:24] [SPEAKER_00]: in the States and even in Japan I'm not sure if it did all that well considering really

[00:30:28] [SPEAKER_00]: so late in the super Famicom's lifespan and I've been really some Japanese blogs about the game

[00:30:33] [SPEAKER_00]: and one notes that there were no commercials and the zindor decided to focus their marketing on titles

[00:30:38] [SPEAKER_00]: like Donkey Kong Country 3 and new Game Boy releases and yeah also the in 64 why do you think it never

[00:30:44] [SPEAKER_00]: came out in the States is it just bad timing or something else if I think it is pretty much bad timing

[00:30:51] [SPEAKER_02]: if you look so the game came out after the Nintendo 64 did but in the same year in Japan

[00:30:57] [SPEAKER_02]: as the Nintendo 64 did and if I was working at Nintendo for America what I would want people to be

[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_02]: picking up this holiday would be super Mario 64 so I wouldn't be putting much marketing towards

[00:31:10] [SPEAKER_02]: a new IP that's also sort of niche obviously RPGs and adventure games are quite big in Japan

[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_02]: but in the States adventure games like PC based there was very few on actual consoles and RPGs

[00:31:26] [SPEAKER_02]: in Europe but just basically didn't exist and you had final fantasy and you technically had earth

[00:31:31] [SPEAKER_02]: but they didn't sell but I've honestly did okay but the Dragon Quest series and earth bound in

[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_02]: particular didn't do massively well and they quite big commitments when it comes to localising

[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_02]: them and bringing them over so having this new IP that's not a action game but is more of a

[00:31:51] [SPEAKER_02]: narrative driven puzzle game with a ton of text to localise and bring over and all this coming

[00:31:58] [SPEAKER_02]: out after the Nintendo 64 was going to come out it just doesn't seem like a very good commitment

[00:32:06] [SPEAKER_02]: of time and money when games like Kirby's Dreamland 3 and Donkey Kong Country 3 which both also

[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_02]: came out of the 64 launched but those are platformers with very minimal dialogue in them

[00:32:20] [SPEAKER_02]: and the case of Donkey Kong Country 3 I mean that was made in the UK so they even need to localise

[00:32:27] [SPEAKER_02]: so it was easy to release so I think that's it Japan kept supporting the Super Nintendo

[00:32:33] [SPEAKER_02]: up until year 2000 something ridiculous like that but America in Europe cut it off very shortly after

[00:32:40] [SPEAKER_02]: the 64 came out so they could put all their focus on that and I think Marvelous was just a victim

[00:32:45] [SPEAKER_02]: of its timing if Marvelous had released in 1994 let's say in a Japan I reckon they would have

[00:32:54] [SPEAKER_00]: it over to at least America it has been re-released twice once on Wii U and just a few months ago

[00:33:00] [SPEAKER_00]: on Nintendo Switch online which is how I'm playing it and there's also a spirit of the three boys

[00:33:04] [SPEAKER_00]: in Smash Ultimate so maybe 20 million people or so I've eventually been exposed to the series

[00:33:11] [SPEAKER_00]: do you think there's any chance for a possible remake in the future? I never say never I think

[00:33:18] [SPEAKER_02]: it entirely comes down to whether Aeroomor can step away from Zelda because he's basically been

[00:33:27] [SPEAKER_02]: locked to Hyrule over the last two decades and even though he's not the director anymore he's

[00:33:33] [SPEAKER_02]: the series supervisor and it seems no matter what he tries he keeps ending up back at Zelda we

[00:33:38] [SPEAKER_02]: talked obviously at some point they seem to be remaking the time athletic and camp Arnold and then

[00:33:48] [SPEAKER_02]: they there was an interview where Aeroomor talked about making a new IP and not doing something Zelda

[00:33:54] [SPEAKER_02]: and talked potentially about making a game where you star as a thief and we haven't seen that

[00:34:01] [SPEAKER_02]: but I reckon that new echoes of wisdom that they announced if you start looking at the way

[00:34:06] [SPEAKER_02]: that game is sort of framed Zelda starts off in a dungeon there seems to be implications that maybe

[00:34:12] [SPEAKER_02]: people's memories of her have been stolen or something I wouldn't surprise me if we found out

[00:34:17] [SPEAKER_02]: some point down the line in an interview that echoes of wisdom started off as a new IP and

[00:34:23] [SPEAKER_02]: then they were like we could make it as Zelda game and we get that I think it really does just

[00:34:28] [SPEAKER_02]: comes down to Aeroomor being like I want to do marvelous again or at least we could get a situation

[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_02]: like Famicom Detective Club where an outside party who liked that game shows up in appeals so

[00:34:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Famicom Detective Club happened because majors went to Nintendo went to Sacramento who was the

[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_02]: writer and director of that game and was basically like we want to remake this and he was like yeah

[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_02]: go ahead it tendos team won't be involved at all but I'll supervise the project

[00:35:03] [SPEAKER_02]: potentially if we get game team out there who want to remake Marvelous and go to Nintendo and go to

[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Aeroomor and be like we really like Marvelous and think it would do well on modern platforms

[00:35:15] [SPEAKER_02]: his our demo for how potential remake Aeroomor might be keen on it because I guarantee he holds

[00:35:23] [SPEAKER_02]: this game in a special place in his heart like it's his first child basically the first thing

[00:35:28] [SPEAKER_02]: he made and back in the day when after they made this they expressed interest in doing a sequel

[00:35:34] [SPEAKER_02]: they wanted to do a follow-up not immediately because in this game started developmented something

[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_02]: like 1992 and 1993 when I know they talked about oh in fact no it's 1991 sorry it's when

[00:35:47] [SPEAKER_02]: this game started development so it was in development for five years they talked about taking a

[00:35:53] [SPEAKER_02]: short break but then hopefully returning to the game and then it just didn't happen because the

[00:35:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Ogots split up and Aeroomor ended up being way too focused on Zelda to be able to do anything with it

[00:36:03] [SPEAKER_02]: so this is all around about way to say never say never who knows what's gonna happen

[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_02]: it's not impossible the game is not so minor that I think there's no interest in bringing it back

[00:36:15] [SPEAKER_02]: I just think the right people need to come along and convince Aeroomor that they can do it

[00:36:21] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah I definitely think it has remake potential since it is a new game for the West

[00:36:26] [SPEAKER_00]: so you could always market it like that and the game is also fairly long how long to beat

[00:36:30] [SPEAKER_00]: has it at 11 to 13 hours which is about the same length as links awakening for example

[00:36:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't a lot of people want a remake off for the frog the bell tolls

[00:36:41] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah they game five hours so I might didn't know it would never remake that in select for

[00:36:45] [SPEAKER_00]: 60 bucks but this white game has a bit more meat on its bones you never know you can't say

[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_00]: never and they could always just no turning into a Zelda game like beyond the complete

[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_00]: and then not to look more on or something like that you never know

[00:37:00] [SPEAKER_02]: then you know I really hopefully don't do that

[00:37:05] [SPEAKER_02]: I would have been perfect to remake on the 3DS in my opinion it's a shame we don't

[00:37:11] [SPEAKER_02]: have the dual screen format anymore because as I when I was playing this for the first time

[00:37:16] [SPEAKER_02]: I was just thinking of the chronotryger remake that they made for DS

[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_02]: yes and how you can just keep the graphics as they are

[00:37:23] [SPEAKER_02]: maybe with a couple of touchups here and there and just have it so that the bottom screen is

[00:37:28] [SPEAKER_02]: the investigate part on the top screen is the playable part and you can very easily

[00:37:32] [SPEAKER_02]: swap between running around and investigating and the meant in the way that's an inventory

[00:37:38] [SPEAKER_02]: management can be handled way smoother by just clicking on it in the bottom screen rather than

[00:37:42] [SPEAKER_02]: having to go through buttons it would have been perfect for DS or 3DS it's just a shame I didn't

[00:37:47] [SPEAKER_00]: happen all right I don't question you need to right now off the top of your head come up with a

[00:37:56] [SPEAKER_00]: amount or all three of them on the field at once or what oh I think it would need to work like

[00:38:01] [SPEAKER_02]: a combination of a Pokemon trainer and ice climbers where you swap between them all the

[00:38:06] [SPEAKER_02]: you have the three of them they all have their own separate movesets but maybe they all follow

[00:38:10] [SPEAKER_02]: behind each other I guess you could have it so that the other two stand in the background and

[00:38:13] [SPEAKER_02]: they just warp out rather than the hatch flying off and going onto each one but it's technically

[00:38:18] [SPEAKER_02]: possible I kind of like it or three of them are running around together and using the down special

[00:38:23] [SPEAKER_02]: swap to the next one and then obviously you got some like Deon control as baseballs for

[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_02]: his default and Max can kick the football easy stuff there side specials can be whatever one of

[00:38:35] [SPEAKER_02]: the items Deon has a kind of dash Peggy's a spout style thing if I remember right so you could do

[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_02]: stuff like that and then obviously they got different stats Max is faster but he gets not back easier

[00:38:45] [SPEAKER_02]: and I just slower it but it not back is limited and Jack has the best jump and recovery of the group

[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_02]: but kind of a middleing attack power and then their final smash is that is them doing

[00:38:57] [SPEAKER_02]: with big group attack or three of them more coming together to lift a giant rock up and throw it

[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_02]: in something like that or yeah pirate ship get on that pirate ship and fire a cannon or something

[00:39:08] [SPEAKER_00]: here's my pitch for the final smash it opens up the investigation window and then all the other

[00:39:13] [SPEAKER_00]: opponents will trap in the window and you gotta click on them to KO them so I mean a lot of potential

[00:39:19] [SPEAKER_00]: put them in smash though with the power of the switch too maybe they can be in smash finally

[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_00]: we'll only hope so Josh it was great to chat with you about this hidden gym marvellous

[00:39:30] [SPEAKER_00]: another treasure island definitely worth checking out or just wait for the remake that would

[00:39:34] [SPEAKER_00]: absolutely come out very very soon so Josh will work and people find you so you can find me on twitter

[00:39:41] [SPEAKER_02]: or ex under mr and tendo or go to youtube and look up the Nintendo chronic club and find me there

[00:39:48] [SPEAKER_02]: got a video all on marvellous that you can find on the channel if you want to more in depth

[00:39:53] [SPEAKER_02]: look at everything go check that out and I just released a new video about golfing games on

[00:39:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Nintendo systems hold the Mario golf games and all of the non Mario golf games that they made

[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_02]: that's if we age as to make and it's the longest video on the channel I hope you enjoy

[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_00]: yes and our new my worked on one of them so yes it's a connection there is a connection

[00:40:14] [SPEAKER_00]: so yes the links to everything will be in the podcast description so listeners check it out

[00:40:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Joshua once again thanks for joining me thanks half of me on

[00:40:29] [SPEAKER_00]: today's feature is on dry and quest carnival in mid-automite i a dry and quest theme

[00:40:33] [SPEAKER_00]: event happening right now in yoko hauma this is the same journal area as last year's pokemon world

[00:40:40] [SPEAKER_00]: shockingly I am actually on time talking about an event still happening so if you're listening

[00:40:44] [SPEAKER_00]: to this podcast day one you've got about a week left check it out as long as you're

[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_00]: somewhere close to yoko hauma if not well you're going to check it out be listening to me right now

[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_00]: if listening to this podcast I probably don't need to explain what dry and quest is but this event

[00:41:00] [SPEAKER_00]: isn't just being randomly held it's to hype up the releases of dry and quest 3 HD2D

[00:41:04] [SPEAKER_00]: and to a lesser extent 1 and 2 HD2D and also to promote tourism in yoko hauma there's definitely a

[00:41:14] [SPEAKER_00]: but it does serve as a general dry and quest event as well there's a few key activities

[00:41:19] [SPEAKER_00]: the stamp rally the cafe sling painting monster photospots pop up shop and a dc3 exhibit

[00:41:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I did everything except for one which we'll get into i will say that the event has been slightly

[00:41:32] [SPEAKER_00]: expanded since the last time i visited now places all around yoko hauma will hand out a dry and

[00:41:37] [SPEAKER_00]: quest ticker if you buy something there and the fairspool has a slime design on it at night

[00:41:42] [SPEAKER_00]: but let's focus on the stuff i actually did now everything takes place within two or i

[00:41:46] [SPEAKER_00]: guess technically three buildings mark i s which is a department store and landmark plaza which yes

[00:41:52] [SPEAKER_00]: is another department store that one is connected to landmark tower which is a big tower

[00:41:57] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe plaza and tower are two different buildings but let's say they are the same

[00:42:01] [SPEAKER_00]: both are thankfully very close to each other originally i wondered if all the events would have

[00:42:06] [SPEAKER_00]: us hopping around all the tourist spots of me not to meet i which would be fun in the since that it

[00:42:10] [SPEAKER_00]: feels like a real adventure but considering the horrible heat i am glad that everything took place

[00:42:15] [SPEAKER_00]: inside nice air condition buildings i always considered myself pretty strong when it came to

[00:42:20] [SPEAKER_00]: summer and javdi summers never faced me but this year has been brutal so i'm trying to find

[00:42:26] [SPEAKER_00]: things i can do without melting like a slime if you will i got there a few minutes before the

[00:42:31] [SPEAKER_00]: department store was actually open but right at the entrance of mark i s is a big golem statue

[00:42:36] [SPEAKER_00]: there were several monster statues scattered across the event area and all of them are pretty large

[00:42:40] [SPEAKER_00]: and highly detailed golem is a good one to start off with since it'll immediately grab your attention

[00:42:46] [SPEAKER_00]: the department store is opened up at 10 and our reservation for the dq cafe was at 11 am

[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_00]: so we had about an hour to participate in the stamp rally inside mark i s you get a

[00:42:56] [SPEAKER_00]: signed shape stamped card and you can go around places inside the department store to get a stamp

[00:43:01] [SPEAKER_00]: the card tells you where they are so they aren't super hidden but sometimes it can be a bit vague

[00:43:06] [SPEAKER_00]: scattered across mark i s are other monster statues there's the iconic slime which is probably

[00:43:11] [SPEAKER_00]: way larger than it is in the game and also a great saber cat was right outside the entrance

[00:43:17] [SPEAKER_00]: king sign is displayed triumphantly in the middle of the area with a background wall at 8

[00:43:21] [SPEAKER_00]: bit pixel maps on the floor on the back of the wall is a big dq3 hd2 mural something that I

[00:43:31] [SPEAKER_00]: king simes statue are three giant balloons a blue orange and green simes it's just a fantastic photo

[00:43:38] [SPEAKER_00]: up all around i mean when are you going to see giant slime balloons well actually there is one

[00:43:43] [SPEAKER_00]: more giant slime balloon I'll talk about but still so my wife and I got our stamp rally cards

[00:43:48] [SPEAKER_00]: right next to the big king simes statue and off we went the stamp areas are really just kiosks

[00:43:54] [SPEAKER_00]: with the stamp and some flyers advertising drying quest games and the drying quest carnival

[00:43:58] [SPEAKER_00]: every stamp kiosk though featured special art for the event relating to tourism and yoko

[00:44:03] [SPEAKER_00]: hauma you've got the sign for adding the cable cars which are in the minato minai area

[00:44:08] [SPEAKER_00]: gollums at the red brick warehouse section dragons in Chinatown ironically at these torso

[00:44:13] [SPEAKER_00]: occasions are aren't any deco things there to my knowledge but I guess the ideas that you start

[00:44:18] [SPEAKER_00]: here and then you're inspired to check out the rest the stamp lines weren't very long except

[00:44:22] [SPEAKER_00]: the last one but even then you're waiting maybe five minutes and of course the stamps are the

[00:44:28] [SPEAKER_00]: you only need six stamps so thankfully it wasn't some all-day or deal.

[00:44:33] [SPEAKER_00]: On our way to the second stamp we path by granif which is the japanese t-shirt and a peril store

[00:44:38] [SPEAKER_00]: and yes right now they are showcasing their fifth collaboration with dry inquest

[00:44:42] [SPEAKER_00]: this is technically separate from the carnival but nice timing either way I picked up some

[00:44:47] [SPEAKER_00]: slime night socks which look really awesome and the embroidery is excellent definitely check out

[00:44:51] [SPEAKER_00]: granus website to see the dry inquest stuff if you haven't seen it yet we got three stamps in

[00:44:55] [SPEAKER_00]: the last one and then it was off to landmark plaza for the other three. This area is where most

[00:45:00] [SPEAKER_00]: of the fun happens so it's good start with mark i s and then do the rest in landmark which

[00:45:05] [SPEAKER_00]: is much larger and has a more spacious first floor but same deal you go to the spots and stamp

[00:45:10] [SPEAKER_00]: your sign card when I got all the stamps you take to the counter to get a special slime stamp

[00:45:15] [SPEAKER_00]: and a sticker featuring all the unique yokohama themed art listen it's about the journey not the

[00:45:25] [SPEAKER_00]: went there they were giving out time tickets and i got one for about noon which was perfect

[00:45:30] [SPEAKER_00]: since my reservation for the cafe was at eleven. When I entered the pop-up shop around noon

[00:45:35] [SPEAKER_00]: there were hanging out time tickets for 430 so will have thumb for Japan in general get those

[00:45:40] [SPEAKER_00]: timed tickets a-sap it's never gonna be too early so stamp really done pretty straightforward you

[00:45:46] [SPEAKER_00]: go from a to b oh i saw another golem statue and one of drykey with drykey stickers on the wall

[00:45:52] [SPEAKER_00]: landmark plaza also has some i guess hidden dry and quest monsters plastered on the walls

[00:45:57] [SPEAKER_00]: there was yet a third golem but this time it was just a black outline on some bricks which is

[00:46:02] [SPEAKER_00]: pretty clever i also saw an imp next to a restaurant because he's got a fork so that fits

[00:46:08] [SPEAKER_00]: these aren't labeled anywhere so you kind of have to just stumble across them but they are fun

[00:46:12] [SPEAKER_00]: photo ops but one of the biggest events at the carnival is the dry and quest cafe courtesy of fanbase

[00:46:18] [SPEAKER_00]: i think cafe fanbase is really just a place where public shops rent out the space

[00:46:22] [SPEAKER_00]: it is distinctly non-descript it's a big rectangular room with a basic appearance because they

[00:46:28] [SPEAKER_00]: decked out with whatever clav they're hosting we had reservations so we got in and we're seated

[00:46:32] [SPEAKER_00]: quickly and then we had the monumental task to figure out what on earth we were going to eat

[00:46:36] [SPEAKER_00]: there were four main entree's golden slime chicken plates slime butter chicken curry a mimic burger

[00:46:42] [SPEAKER_00]: and a metal slime cake which isn't a meal but it was in the entree section now the epic struggle

[00:46:49] [SPEAKER_00]: is deciding on what sounds most appealing and what looks to cool list i mean the butter chicken curry

[00:46:55] [SPEAKER_00]: is up my alley but it was just a slime shape and rice the metal slime cake looked awesome

[00:47:01] [SPEAKER_00]: this looks like a real bubbly metal slime but my wife and I couldn't resist the allure of the

[00:47:06] [SPEAKER_00]: mimic burger the mimic monster if you don't know is he classic RPG mimic you take treasure chest

[00:47:11] [SPEAKER_00]: with fangs and a huge tongue now how is this a burger i'll say barely it is meets between bread

[00:47:18] [SPEAKER_00]: but the bread is shaped like a treasure chest it looks amazing try to find a picture of it all my

[00:47:24] [SPEAKER_00]: socials but it was admittedly very cumbersome to actually eat first of all it was huge I felt like

[00:47:30] [SPEAKER_00]: half a loaf of bread it's probably not bigger than a normal half-foot sub lengthwise but the

[00:47:35] [SPEAKER_00]: width was pretty absurd it's hard to pick up any ass of burger so you're going to need to break

[00:47:39] [SPEAKER_00]: that knife and fork the burger part was also kind of a potato salad mixed with cold hamburger meat

[00:47:45] [SPEAKER_00]: it tasted pretty good but i do wish you was you know hot a hot hamburger instead of a cold dish

[00:47:51] [SPEAKER_00]: it also came with some chips and salsa because why not i don't regret ordering it at all despite

[00:47:57] [SPEAKER_00]: the other dishes looking easier to actually eat because it is a really fun eating experience just

[00:48:01] [SPEAKER_00]: trying to figure it out now we weren't content with just our mimic burgers we also ordered some

[00:48:05] [SPEAKER_00]: don't go this was soccer a don't go with the pink white and green mochi but these slime faces are on them

[00:48:12] [SPEAKER_00]: this tasted pretty good i mean it's hard to mess up don't go for my fun drink i got a king slime ice cream

[00:48:17] [SPEAKER_00]: soda where a big scoop of blue ice cream serves as the king slime and my wife just got some blue soda in

[00:48:23] [SPEAKER_00]: a slime class again you're ordering it to take pictures and partake in the experience

[00:48:28] [SPEAKER_00]: it wasn't expensive but fun meal nothing tasted horrible and i can tell everyone i ate a treasure chest

[00:48:34] [SPEAKER_00]: asked for the decorations inside the cafe there were a lot of slime scattered about and every

[00:48:38] [SPEAKER_00]: table had a slime plushie you could take pictures with the ceiling also had metals with monsters

[00:48:43] [SPEAKER_00]: hanging from them the back wall had two huge banners of dragon quest 3 HD 2D and dragon quest 1

[00:48:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and 2 HD 2D with videos of general dragon quest gameplay and oh yeah it goes without saying that

[00:48:54] [SPEAKER_00]: deco music was blasting through the speakers again these huge art banners were pretty awesome

[00:48:59] [SPEAKER_00]: it was great to see the stellar artwork blown up so big now inside the cafe is the slime painting

[00:49:04] [SPEAKER_00]: this activity is the exact same one as on dragon quest island on a wichy island where you paint

[00:49:11] [SPEAKER_00]: a big slime and take it home i didn't do this why well i asked my wife to reserve the cafe

[00:49:16] [SPEAKER_00]: and the slime painting i think i was a little confused about where the activities were so i

[00:49:21] [SPEAKER_00]: asked her to check it out and she reserved both at the same time because she told me that the

[00:49:26] [SPEAKER_00]: slime painting was inside the cafe so you need to select the same time for both now while both are

[00:49:31] [SPEAKER_00]: in the same place you do need to reserve for different times so unfortunately we had to choose

[00:49:36] [SPEAKER_00]: one over the other and we chose the cafe i did see inside the slime painting area and it seemed fun

[00:49:42] [SPEAKER_00]: so next time i'll check it out after the cafe we took a picture of the big display in the middle

[00:49:46] [SPEAKER_00]: with a big dragon quest carnival art on the first floor and the giant slime balloon hovering above it

[00:49:52] [SPEAKER_00]: to get a good shot you actually need to go to the third floor since both are so huge

[00:49:56] [SPEAKER_00]: the pics look great though the slime kind of does look like CGI somehow i think it's the

[00:50:02] [SPEAKER_00]: lighting and the simple design but i sure you it is real this was in the exact same spot as last

[00:50:07] [SPEAKER_00]: here's giant poke bun card and Pikachu balloon so they've really got their big art and giant

[00:50:12] [SPEAKER_00]: balloon game down here at landmark plaza after that we went to the aforementioned pop-up shop

[00:50:16] [SPEAKER_00]: now you can buy de-commerch at a lot of places so i wanted something that you could only get here

[00:50:21] [SPEAKER_00]: specifically themed after the carnival and they didn't have much they have some shirts with

[00:50:27] [SPEAKER_00]: the dragon quest carnival logo on it but they were quote free size meaning one size fits all

[00:50:33] [SPEAKER_00]: i took the measurements and maybe it would fit me but the shirts were too expensive for maybe

[00:50:38] [SPEAKER_00]: i did not have a plastic bottle with the yokohama art on it though now is 2200 yen a fair price for

[00:50:44] [SPEAKER_00]: a clear bottle something that i could probably buy for a hundred yen at can do the answer is no

[00:50:50] [SPEAKER_00]: but i'm sure i will need this bottle one day i did see my wife using it so it has some practical use

[00:50:55] [SPEAKER_00]: i'm sure it'll save my life down the line one day but if you were just looking for de-commerch

[00:51:00] [SPEAKER_00]: the shop is pretty comprehensive they even have a lot of books and CDs and in a display case

[00:51:06] [SPEAKER_00]: inside the shop they had these switch and ps5 boxes of dragon quest 3 hd2d and the little plastic

[00:51:11] [SPEAKER_00]: standies of all the classes so i got to see those up close which was pretty cool the last thing

[00:51:16] [SPEAKER_00]: on my list was the dragon quest 3 hd2d exhibit inside landmark tower so after a few minutes of

[00:51:22] [SPEAKER_00]: figure out how to actually get inside the tower we made our way up there you do need to take it

[00:51:27] [SPEAKER_00]: to go to the observation area where the exhibit is but they did sell a special dragon quest ticket

[00:51:31] [SPEAKER_00]: which gives you some postcards i bought that ticket and got four nice postcards i will never use

[00:51:37] [SPEAKER_00]: but i will hoard until the day i die up on the observation deck you can see all around the

[00:51:46] [SPEAKER_00]: buildings but forget about a gorgeous view of the harbor on a clear day i was here to see some

[00:51:50] [SPEAKER_00]: dragon quest stuff there's another statue here of this slime stack and next to it they huge poster

[00:51:55] [SPEAKER_00]: with a message from a uji hordy talking about the exhibit now the exhibit is not just more

[00:52:00] [SPEAKER_00]: dragon quest statues or photo ops or whatever although those are here but it despite art and

[00:52:05] [SPEAKER_00]: design documents from dragon quest 3 so this was the most historically enriching part of the carnival

[00:52:11] [SPEAKER_00]: unfortunately you can't take pictures of any of the art or documents i guess they don't want

[00:52:16] [SPEAKER_00]: you to steal their secrets but it was amazing to see in person some look like copies but others

[00:52:22] [SPEAKER_00]: look like they were the original copy they even had the holes from ring binders in them the documents

[00:52:26] [SPEAKER_00]: included rough sketches of the classes dialogue scenes maps the original score sheets and so on

[00:52:32] [SPEAKER_00]: it was really incredible to see in person and we often forget how analog game development was

[00:52:37] [SPEAKER_00]: in the 80s it was mostly on those square graph papers which makes me think of Mario since that's how

[00:52:42] [SPEAKER_00]: they drew their levels back in the day man let's give it up for graph paper it was carrying

[00:52:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Japanese game development for a long time fortunately you can take a picture of a big poster signed

[00:52:51] [SPEAKER_00]: by hordy sugiama and toriyama which really sings now that he's passed pretty much anything he's touched

[00:52:57] [SPEAKER_00]: becomes a small piece of history after the exhibit area you do walk through yet another merch shop

[00:53:02] [SPEAKER_00]: selling a lot of the same stuff as the d cube pop up shop so here's your second chance

[00:53:06] [SPEAKER_00]: there's also a library area and there was also a section called dry and quest library

[00:53:10] [SPEAKER_00]: which highlighted dry and quest themed books these aren't just art books or manuals

[00:53:15] [SPEAKER_00]: but in Japan there's a lot of themed children's workbooks for example a congee drill book

[00:53:20] [SPEAKER_00]: but themed around dry and quest there are picture books for kids math practice books you

[00:53:25] [SPEAKER_00]: would be surprised about how many different types of dry and quest books exist the library also had

[00:53:29] [SPEAKER_00]: a rather absurd number of sign plushies all around this area has also had larger pieces of the art

[00:53:34] [SPEAKER_00]: featuring the yokohama art which I mentioned earlier. Turn the quarter and you're at the other part

[00:53:38] [SPEAKER_00]: of the observation area but now there are silhouettes of monsters on the glass which make for a nice photo

[00:53:43] [SPEAKER_00]: ops all of yokohama is now encased inside a sign there's also a big statue of sign diet which is one

[00:53:49] [SPEAKER_00]: of my favorite monsters and yes another gigantic mural featuring the dry and quest 3 hc2d art

[00:53:55] [SPEAKER_00]: i mean it looks great so i don't blame them for slyping it everywhere so that was dry and quest

[00:53:59] [SPEAKER_00]: carnival just a fun way to spend a couple of hours in yokohama which in itself is a fantastic

[00:54:03] [SPEAKER_00]: datripe from tokyo and something you can't see all in one day. I will say that the cafe

[00:54:09] [SPEAKER_00]: reservation is a must that was such a big part of the experience if you're listening to this now

[00:54:13] [SPEAKER_00]: and are thinking about going while i'm sure the cafe and sign painting reservations are all filled up

[00:54:19] [SPEAKER_00]: so is it worth it to go without doing either of them? I say yes but have some other non-decue

[00:54:25] [SPEAKER_00]: travel spots in mind when you head over there to fill out the day but anyways it was just a great

[00:54:33] [SPEAKER_00]: ending exhibit looking at all the decue 3 documents with awe inspiring my wife said that was

[00:54:38] [SPEAKER_00]: her favorite part and she's never owned and yes i did knock out one more polkillad while i was in

[00:54:43] [SPEAKER_00]: yokohama so my polkillad collection has now grown to nine just 300 more to go that's it for the

[00:54:49] [SPEAKER_00]: feature now for some news marketing for the legend of zelda echoes of wisdom is ramping up

[00:55:00] [SPEAKER_00]: and we got a brand new trailer highlighting parts of the world and brand new game mechanics that really

[00:55:04] [SPEAKER_00]: blew this whole thing open it looks far closer to breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom

[00:55:09] [SPEAKER_00]: that i originally expected the whole ecosystem is very similar to the tools you use in tears

[00:55:14] [SPEAKER_00]: but now we have the bind ability which looks very ultra handy but you can't move things when

[00:55:20] [SPEAKER_00]: your stationary instead things move with you so it has the green light that connects you in the

[00:55:25] [SPEAKER_00]: object but you can't bring the object closer to you or push it away but the limitations are

[00:55:30] [SPEAKER_00]: since you can make puzzles based around positioning yourself correctly they showed off a lot of

[00:55:35] [SPEAKER_00]: fun things you can do like move a giant boulder or pick up an enemy and then drop them off a cliff

[00:55:40] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe the most mind blowing thing for me was connecting yourself to a spider and then the spider

[00:55:45] [SPEAKER_00]: crawls up the wall carrying you with it they also showed off a reverse bond which kind of works

[00:55:50] [SPEAKER_00]: like the timer vs all in tears of the kingdom where you move with another object momentum

[00:55:55] [SPEAKER_00]: and past 2D's out of games you never really thought about interacting with the world

[00:55:59] [SPEAKER_00]: a wall was a wall it was there to block you but now it really feels like the newer 3D's

[00:56:04] [SPEAKER_00]: out of titles in that you can interact with literally anything they showed on enough a few times

[00:56:08] [SPEAKER_00]: but even walking on top of trees feels like a boundary breaking bit i mean you shouldn't be able

[00:56:14] [SPEAKER_00]: to do that right it's crazy to see those trees which are a 3D version of links awakening art style

[00:56:19] [SPEAKER_00]: but you can walk on them i never mentioned as a kid i'd be walking on trees and

[00:56:24] [SPEAKER_00]: a top downs out of game technology has really come a long way another element making it stay

[00:56:29] [SPEAKER_00]: you into desatta is a horse zouta can summon and ride a horse all over high roll i do

[00:56:35] [SPEAKER_00]: wonder how they're going to balance it since as we saw in breath of the wild and tears of the

[00:56:39] [SPEAKER_00]: kingdom wants to get all these crazy mobility options a horse seems rather quaint

[00:56:45] [SPEAKER_00]: i mean i could write a spider up a wall do i really need a horse but hopefully there are some

[00:56:49] [SPEAKER_00]: fun horse specific segments like races or obstacle courses that take advantage of your speed also it

[00:56:56] [SPEAKER_00]: seems like you can have different types of horses as two were shown off in the trailer a brown

[00:57:00] [SPEAKER_00]: little in a white one how about a green horse let's really mix it up other stuff a zouta does

[00:57:05] [SPEAKER_00]: have equipment or at least a singular item slot that also changes her outfit we saw ahead

[00:57:11] [SPEAKER_00]: that gives her more hearts and changes her outfit to ponytails out of they also tease

[00:57:16] [SPEAKER_00]: they a guru outfit the trailer shows her shopping for other items including zora flippers

[00:57:20] [SPEAKER_00]: so i imagine she will have outfits themed after all the races and yes the races of high

[00:57:25] [SPEAKER_00]: rule do return as we see the guru do zora gore on and the deck who which make their

[00:57:30] [SPEAKER_00]: long awaited return i check to see well as the last game that they were actually in

[00:57:34] [SPEAKER_00]: and they do briefly appear in triforce heroes so they haven't been gone that long but it's good

[00:57:40] [SPEAKER_00]: in the same tier as the other races their designs look great as well they have all these different

[00:57:45] [SPEAKER_00]: hairstyles made of leaves and one looks very close to a core octi so that's a fun connection

[00:57:50] [SPEAKER_00]: we also got confirmation that the game divides zora into the river and sea tribes so no time travel

[00:57:56] [SPEAKER_00]: or alternate dimensions here i actually did forget that they did this trick in the oracle of ages game

[00:58:02] [SPEAKER_00]: but i do like these deliberate callbacks to the game boys out of games because i am really hoping

[00:58:07] [SPEAKER_00]: this is a spiritual successor to those instead of just a link to the past sequel like a link

[00:58:12] [SPEAKER_00]: between worlds was the gore on so pretty much the same as do the guru do but again there's

[00:58:17] [SPEAKER_00]: novelty in seeing guru do in a 2D zeld again yes i know they were in force towards adventure but

[00:58:21] [SPEAKER_00]: come on i'm also interested to see having an arach with zeld specifically since a big part of

[00:58:27] [SPEAKER_00]: the guru story lines and pass out titles are the conflict between link being a dude in all women

[00:58:33] [SPEAKER_00]: all these races and have areas that are new to the link to the past map a lot of deliberate

[00:58:37] [SPEAKER_00]: callbacks to the switch zeld titles too since they share the locations like out in volcano

[00:58:41] [SPEAKER_00]: and the fair and wetlands the zora region is called jabbu waters which is a nice reference to

[00:58:46] [SPEAKER_00]: goodo jabbu jabbu i don't want to go all time lining here but i do wonder if this is maybe the last

[00:58:52] [SPEAKER_00]: game on the downfall timeline before breath of the wild since there are stronger links

[00:58:57] [SPEAKER_00]: that was an upon i swear but echoes of wisdom is easily my most anticipated game you've got

[00:59:03] [SPEAKER_00]: a lot of inspiration from links awakening my favorite 2D zelda and the mechanics of the switch

[00:59:08] [SPEAKER_00]: zeldas which are my favorite 3D zeldat titles so could this be the ultimate game i mean probably

[00:59:14] [SPEAKER_00]: other than in the stuff the new quarterly reports came in switches at 143.42 million sold

[00:59:21] [SPEAKER_00]: so yes i do think it will eventually pass the ps2 and yes which sit around 150 million

[00:59:26] [SPEAKER_00]: imagining the wiu day saying yeah but the next console will be the highest selling ever

[00:59:31] [SPEAKER_00]: for software thousand year door hit 1.76 million which is technically the fastest selling paper

[00:59:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Mario title and Luigi's been sent to sold over a million it's opening weekend so yeah

[00:59:41] [SPEAKER_00]: that's why they made digang an interesting thing to note is i present the wild shockingly outsold

[00:59:46] [SPEAKER_00]: tiers of the kingdom this past quarter 200k versus 190k there's been a lot of discussion about

[00:59:53] [SPEAKER_00]: tiers as lack of lags after its explosive opening quarter i think it really boils down to newcomers

[00:59:59] [SPEAKER_00]: to the franchise still wanting to play breath of the wild first since tiers as a direct sequel

[01:00:04] [SPEAKER_00]: i wonder if dintendo will hesitate in the future about making such linear sequels when it comes to

[01:00:08] [SPEAKER_00]: zelda but then again if it tops out at 20 million sold i don't think dintendo will be sad about that

[01:00:15] [SPEAKER_00]: i said this before but there are some franchises where the breakthrough game has never been

[01:00:19] [SPEAKER_00]: topped no Mario platformer has outsold super Mario brothers on in the s no pokemon game has

[01:00:25] [SPEAKER_00]: outsold red and blue breath of the wild just maybe that game for these out of franchise something

[01:00:31] [SPEAKER_00]: that would never be topped until the next huge breakthrough these numbers do have people worried

[01:00:35] [SPEAKER_00]: regarding whether or not switch can meet their originally announced goal at 13.5 million units this

[01:00:39] [SPEAKER_00]: year there is a strong holiday lineup but i don't think that's enough to push it over the

[01:00:45] [SPEAKER_00]: goal line price drop not impossible but i think holiday bundles like say a switch with Mario

[01:00:51] [SPEAKER_00]: cart eight and auditsy together for $400 would probably be more likely next quarter will have

[01:00:57] [SPEAKER_00]: sell zed on in tinto world championships imio and the opening week of zelda so let's see if these

[01:01:02] [SPEAKER_00]: switch numbers boost up a bit last bit of news here's what's happening in tokio the still a lot

[01:01:07] [SPEAKER_00]: of new collaborations coming to the city including power pros teaming up with tokio ramen streets

[01:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: in tokio station you can get a special power pro sticker if you eat at any shop and there's some

[01:01:18] [SPEAKER_00]: exclusive merch as well sunshine city in ike bukuro also has an exhibit for the djomon anime

[01:01:22] [SPEAKER_00]: to celebrate its 25th anniversary i never did get into djomon despite having the actual virtual pet

[01:01:28] [SPEAKER_00]: i mean it's hard to compete with pokemon let's be real i can only remember so many names

[01:01:33] [SPEAKER_00]: there's also an apex legends themed cafe called nesi cafe in ike bukuro not too often you see

[01:01:39] [SPEAKER_00]: claps for western games but apex legends is one that's really broken the barrier and it's

[01:01:44] [SPEAKER_00]: no pretty popular over here as for ongoing big events the dry and quest carnival still happening

[01:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: in yokohama as is the secret of mother to exhibit which will be next week's feature so look forward
